Gate2-Our Proposal
Our Proposal

While the "Current Plan" fails to preserve any portion of the historic Yankee Stadium, it is possible to address the community's concerns by maintaining the modifications that were made in the Alternate Plan and still preserve a meaningful, recognizable and symbolic element of the Stadium, and do so in a very cost effective way.

Gate 2

The three main entrance gates contained the most decorative aspects of the original 1923 Stadium exterior. They consisted of design elements not to be found elsewhere in the Stadium.

Since Gate 2 is the only entrance gate that was relatively unaltered during the 1974-75 modernization, we believe this gateway should be preserved, even if no other part of the Stadium is retained. This historically significant gateway occupies a very small area along the edge of the parkland area and will require no loss of recreational space.

Referring to the "before" and "after" Gate 2 photos, note that the three original arches remain, complete with protruding balconies adorned with the famous "interlocking NY."

Also unchanged are the rough-textured concrete and massive vertical support columns that frame the Gate. This entrance also retains the vintage ticket kiosks and turnstiles.
