Heritage-Our Proposal

Benefits to the Community and City of New York

We believe that preserving Gate 2 at its current site will offer many advantages and benefits to all. Here are some thoughts to consider:

  • What better way is there to provide a gateway to Heritage Park than by using the original 1923 gate to Yankee Stadium? It is already there and perfectly located.

  • With a tangible reminder of old Yankee Stadium, Heritage Park would be so in fact, as well as name. It will become an exciting destination in itself for people of varied interests.

  • Its location directly opposite the new Yankee Stadium would create an appealing juxtaposition and help create a "Yankee Village" atmosphere.

  • Impact on Heritage Park in terms of area occupied would be minimal, leaving virtually the entire area available for sports and other neighborhood activities.

  • Initial expenditure and upkeep/maintenance costs will be low.

  • Saving this historic element could increase the market value of other stadium items to be salvaged and sold by the City of New York.

As we've learned from the past losses of numerous great architectural masterpieces, significant public buildings, beautiful homes, historic monuments, and beloved old ballparks, once a structure is torn down, it is gone forever. Here, we have an excellent opportunity to preserve a small, but meaningful section of the original Yankee Stadium, a place of so many good memories, for the enjoyment of future generations.

We request that the City of New York consider amending the current demolition and park plans to include preserving Gate 2 as a fitting memorial to historic Yankee Stadium. Please support us in this effort.
