From joeincinci:
As a Mets and Red Sox fan growing up in NJ, I'm even saddened by this. Save The Yankee Gate 2 was an excellent idea and it's absurd that it was never implemented. Shame on the NYC parks, the Mayor, NYY, etc.

From John Trush:
One of the Gate 2 balconies was offered to the Baseball Hall of Fame by NYC. The Hall of Fame declined to accept them on June 8, 2010. There written reason was that it was too big and they didn't have a place to display or store it...

From eric hoppe:
what the f i guess this is gona show up at cooperstown like the old ternstilles of ebbetsfeald and griffen park supper pissed off

From Kevin Wirhouski:
Thank you for your efforts to try and save a piece of this historic cathedral. I am still sick to my stomach.

From Hugh Harris:
You are to be commended for what you tried to accomplish! Very sorry they did not accept you plan. I watched Tiger Stadium meet the same fate. Thanks for you efforts.

From vinnie savoca:
Its just sad and i very surprised they let it go.

From Ed Diaz:
It is very sad and I just can't believe the city of new york couldn't get this done.

From George Dowbnia:
This is beyond belief. Obviously, no one who could have made a difference cares or understands what this stadium means to many. It is a testament to the "new" America. I liked the "old" America better. It will be hard to walk by that site and not be sad and angry.

From Matt:
Watching the Stadium go down like this is like watching a good friend wither die right in front of you, as you can hopelessly watch. I'm sad to say i speak for most of the Yankee Community, but its the truth. No real Yankee fan would want the new stadium over the original one, despite the modern amenities. Now for the city of New York to not save the gate is beyond me. Clearly it is about money and they are apparently to cheap to save just a small portion of the greatest stadium in North America. RIP Yankee Stadium. At least we have the memories.

From Mike Wagner:
Dear Myron, It's not too late. Nice sections of the exterior wall are still standing. It's still the old Yankee Stadium.

From Myron:
I visited the site yesterday and stood atop the garage. Gate 2 is gone. Everything is just lying on the field waiting to be pulverized. My eyes were burning from the smoke and debris. While watching, I thought of all the history and memories being destroyed. Only part of the southeast wall still remains. Very sad time.

From Myron:
How sad that Gate 2 was not saved as a landmark. There was no money to be made by saving it. We must blame the Yankee organization as well as the City. The Yankees could have donated or even made a statement about saving Gate 2 but didn't care. The fact is, they want people to forget. Outside of Dallas, the same fate awaited the historic Texas Stadium. I'm glad that fans were shocked when they saw the remnants of the old Stadium. Where was Jeter and all the others to speak-up? Now, it's too late. All we have left now are memories and I bought a model of the old Stadium as a remembrance. Thanks to all who tried to save the past!

From Jose Angel Velez:
They Just Did Not Care :-(

From Ryan Rutherford:
I'm a Rangers fan from Dallas but I know exactly how you guys are feeling right now. On Sunday morning I got to wake up and watch my beloved Texas Stadium come crashing down into a pile of debris.

From Michael Wagner:
Since Gate 2 is lost, it would be nice if the city would save a portion of the right field wall instead as a permanent monument to Yankee Stadium.

From Len Linkens:
Save gate 2!

From Patrick Fields:
It is very important to save the only piece of the original Yankee Stadium that was not changed during the 74 - 75 renovation

From John McCauley:
Remember Penn Station! New York has a unique opportunity here to blend reverence for the past with creating a destination for the future. I can no longer take my kids and grandkids to the place where Gerig and Mantle played - millions from around the world would be drawn to The Bronx for the history as well as the baseball!

From Ralph De Lucia:
I was born and raised in the Morris Park Avenue neighborhood growing up in the 50s and 60s. If there is anything that will put the crowning glory on the new Yankee Stadium Heritage Park, preserving Gate two would be it. It would tie the glorious past of the New York Yankees to the present and the future. People always come for the games at the new Yankee stadium but every one of them will be drawn by the need to walk through gate 2 and touch the place where home plate once was. Perhaps in the distant future, maybe 80 or 100 years when the now new Yankee Stadium’s time comes, and future owners and politicians weigh it’s fate, gate six will be still standing and someone will say “let’s build the new Yankee Stadium right there, just like 1923 and let’s incorporate gate six, once again.” And someone else will suggest preserving a portion of the “old” Yankee stadium… for the future. That’s how you maintain and grow tradition and legend. In the words of Terrance Mann (James Earl Jones) from Field of Dreams…. “The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.” PLEASE preserve gate 2 to remind us “…of all that once was good and it could be again.”

From Mark Lopa:
This is a great way to keep part of the original (1923) Yankee Stadium intact forever. Fight the good fight!

From Pope Steve XXVII:
Save Gate 2!!! It would be a shame if nothing is left of the old stadium.

From John Trush:
TO PETE W (below), Please take the time to review all of the documents on this website. Have you ever heard of The Statue of Liberty, The Washington Square Arch and Central Park? Who pays for these public landmarks and facilities? Our proposal included funding options that would make the entire project including maintainence cash neutral. If you leave your contact information we will be happy to discuss it with you further. JT

From MICHAEL SANTORELLI:
I WILL LIKE TO FAN YANKEES. I HAVE A FLAMES PICTURE WALL 1999 WORLD SERIES NEW YORK YANKEES

From Pete W. :
I've never fully heard an explanation as to who is going to pay for maintenance, liability insurance, etc. Please spare the non-sensical arguments that the Yankees have all the money in the world, the city could pay for it, or taxpayers already paid enough. There will be financial costs associated with retaining this wall and neither the Yankees nor the city should be responsible for something that no longer has any productive value. I would like to hear/look at the long term realistic business plan associated with keeping the wall.

From richard melillo:
I like your ideas and it makes perfect sense. If it was up to me I would have left it all up, but I understand for safety and insurance reasons that was imposible. In leu of the yankees winning in their inaugural season, this should be a no brainer.

From Dean:
.

From steve Hoffman :
We need to preserve yankee staduims history, how willkeep the stories going on for our young ones when they will be taking down the greatest piece of history know to the staduim, the gate 2 entrance is the symbol of babe bruth to derek jeter.. Structure is up already, why not finsh the sides and save money by not worrying about a plaque to restore history when you can keep a piece of history safe kept..

From Shavonne:
Is there a petition we can sign or other action that can be taken? It's terribly sad that Hilltop Park is gone, only remember by a plaque in a courtyard that is often closed to the public. Let's not let Yankee Stadium have the same fate!

From Jordan Firestein:
Keep the hope....you gotta have heart

From Bob Johnston:
Keep up the good work! PLEASE SAVE GATE 2!!!

From Jared Doyon:
not looking to good for gate 2, but must keep the hope!!

From Christian Burris:
This is a great idea- it's a wonderful way to preserve an important part of our cultural history.

From Mike Dinis:
A great idea! Job well done! Hopefully those who have the power to save the gate get the message.

From Mike B. :
A phenomenal idea. Keep up the fight to save Gate 2. There should be no reason why this project cannot come to fruition.

From Larry Weinberg:
Add my name to those who would like to see a piece of OYS preserved as in the Gate 2 plan...

From Nick:
I know what its like to lose an old friend. Shea Stadium was where I saw my first game, as well as my father did, and my son. To me Yankee Stadium is a symbol of baseball becoming our national pastime. As a fan of the game past, present, and future I believe we must preserve the gate so we are forever reminded of this sports rich history.

From Dan:
Time is running out, Gate 2 MUST be preserved for future generations to gaze at in awe and wonder. The preservation crimes in this country and especially New York, make you wonder if they will ever learn. WE MUST SAVE THE GATE!

From Joe McHugh:
This is an amazing thing you are doing!Saving just a portion of the most historic sports stadium ever is so important. Please do all you can to save gate 2!

From Tom Quinn:
This is a great idea! Please make this happen and save a historic stadium!!

From Tony Biats:
I've been a baseball fan for over 40 years . I cannot think of a better tribute to the hallowed grounds of Yankee Stadium . We must always remember the past , lets not let this great part of baseball history go away , we must always remember Yankee Stadium !!

From james lester:
I was born and raised in the neighbor near yankee stadium and spent much of my younger years playing football baseball and softball at mc combs dam park. Preservation of Gate 2 would mean a great deal to preserve the memories of our childhood with minimal cost to nyc. KEEP THE GATE

From Andrea:
What a great idea. As a Pirates fan, I loved visiting the old Forbes Field wall in Pittsburgh. Even though I wasn't around when the field was, it's always exciting to witness a preserved piece of history.

From joba:
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-418569?hpt=T2 Upper deck coming down on march 10th 2010, i guess nothing wil be saved after all....

From Teri Accardo:
Im not a Yankees fan...Go Cubs, but I am a baseball fan. This is an excellent idea and I think will look wonderful in the new park and serve as a great tribute to one of the best and most recognizable ballparks that once was. I truly hope it works!

From Matt Williams:
This brings memories flooding back to me, takes me right back there all over again. The most formative years of my life were spent in NY. Great ideas guys, I truly hope it works.

From Dave Lappin:
THis is the first I've heard of this preservation effort. I think it's a great idea and I will be firing off some letters, even though I live in NC now. I think the proposal is beautiful. Has anyone been in contact with Guiliani or Trump (2 huge and influential Yankees fans) to elicit their help?

From IPO-WEB:
NO GATE TWO, NOTHING FOR YANKEE FANS, YOU WANTED THE CONVICTED FELON'S STEAK HOUSE AND NEIGHBORHOOD INSIDE A BALLPARK, GO DEMAND THE FELON BUILD A GATE TWO INSIDE HIS TAXPAYER BALLPARK. THAT LAND NOW BELONGS TO MCCOMBS DAM PARK. YOU GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT JUST LIKE THOSE CITIZENS WAITING FOR YEARS. NOW GO HAVE YANKEE RODENT STEAK AT US CELLUAR CONVICTED FELON FIELD DUMP SERVED UP BY TROST AND LEVINE

From Mark E Getman Jr:
Preserving Gate 2 is a perfect solution for Heritage Park. It would be ridiculous if this small piece of history is not preserved!

From Tony V:
As a NYer living in DC, I go to a number of games each year. I sent emails to all parties and think it would be a shame if Gate 2 is not left standing. What a beautiful addition to Heritage Park!!

From John Mansolillo:
I think we all know how we feel about the real stadium and if we can save a piece of it then why not.

From Pedro Melendez:
As a fellow fan of the Yankees it's bad enough for all of us to see the Stadium be destroyed! Sons, fathers, grandfathers went to that historic place over the years. They have to at least have some kind of heart or sense to know that what their doing is all wrong!!!! They need to preserve that great piece of history! Not just for us but for future generations!! To at least let the future know what stood there!! Whats New York without the REAL Yankee Stadium. Help save a great piece of Yankee history, New York City's history. Save Gate 2!!!!

From Patrick Edgeworth:
This is the best idea that could possibly happen at this point. I am ashamed that the Yankees, the Steinbrenners or the city have not given this idea the highest priority.

From Charlie H:
The city made the mistake of not saving the original Penn Station. Don't do the same thing and not save gate 2. This is the last authentic remaining part of the original Yankee Stadium and must not be destroyed!!! It will be a great gateway to Heritage Field. And after a noon Yankee game, people can leave the stadium, cross through Gate 2 and play a game of catch with their kids where legends played!!!!

From joe pecka:
you have to save some thing from the old ball park to much histry to let it all go :(

From Mike Wagner:
Dear Friends, Go to this link for the NY Daily News and leave a comment to be heard!!! http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/bronx/2010/02/24/2010-02-24_2_outs_for_yank_gate.htm

From chris:
SAVE THE GATE!

From Jeff :
Romans have the Colosseum, we have Yankee Stadium. The Stadium deserves better than this, sad the 'powers that be' don't understand the history in their own districts....

From Jon Cooper:
There will be tons of regrets if we dont save at least gate 2 for generations to come. Why won't the Yankee ownership step up? I am so upset. Let's get Billy Crystal and the other celbrities who claim to love the yankees to help and apply some political pressure.

From Serafina Arias:
I hope that the Mayor & the Commissioner re-consider saving a piece of history.A least save gate 2.

From John Alcamo:
Thank you for preserving "THE YANKEE STADIUM"

From Joseph Rinaldi:
After all the old stadium has meant to the city and Yankee fans, saving Gate 2 is the least we can do to remember this icon of baseball history. It will be a perfect entrance to Heritage Park.

From Mike:
Awesome Idea. Next time I'm in town, I'd love to see it.

From Alfonso Higuera:
I was fortunete to get thru gate 2 onmy trip to Yankee stadium from Mexico, this is a great piece of history and should be kept in place. Great Job.

From Joe Guancione:
This plan makes too much sense for any politician to comprehend.....try to get Rudy Guiliani's support too if he hasn't already. Mike Bloomberg is not a Yankee or baseball fan and could care less.......

From paul parrino:
wake up bronx new york.this is history, save the gate.it is a minimal expense.it will draw people into your city to see the gate.people will then probably spend money in the bronx.a win win situation.

From Paul W.:
Gate 2 is a part of Yankee history and baseball. Let it stand for all fans, children and grandchild in the future. Let it stand for all the baseball fans and players that have entered through gate 2.Keep a bit of history for all of us.It only makes good sense to let it just be.

From monte roder:
What a splendid idea !!

From Kris Mason:
Save Gate 2!

From Jason Frankenfield:
I not a Yankee but I think as baseball fan in general. we need to preserve our baseball history for future generation fans to see and learn about.I hope you can save gate 2. I think in this day and age with all the change going on in world. It would great to be able to go walk thew something that would bring back memories of a simpler time in one's life the smells of peanuts roast in and cigars and beer and the smell grass. And the crack of the bat. and the vendors yelling cold beer here!!! And chance to see you idol one time in youth looking great.. Good guys good guys Just imagine all the thing that took place in that stadium from baseball to football and boxing to pope and rock concerts to wedding and funerals including the babe. I hope you poeple can do I'll be root for good luck you will in pray!

From Chai Moussa:
Hey Politicians, show some respect to history. If you think it's just baseball you are clueless.

From Jim Harrer:
I pray that Gate 2 lasts forever at Heritage Park. I can't believe the politicians would even consider taking it down. Maybe we can get Gate 2 considered a National Landmark so that way there, they can't take it down.

From Linda:
Im rooting for you all! I hope we can save Gate 2! What a beautiful way to preserve such a rich history! Wish I was still in NY! Best of luck to you all!

From Don Mulligan:
My Home away from Home !!!

From Fred K:

From Rob Curtis:
Things are starting to look grim for GATE 2 preservation, folks. Maybe we need to organize a sit-in down there, as a final effort?

From bill huston:
new york city officals never save new york hisotry always want to bring it down.

From Steve Sosna:
It's INSANE they are thinking about not preserving this historic Gate. The Babe is rolling over in his grave.

From Richard Simonetti:
Yes this is very important to all Yankees Fans past, presant & Future. This piece of the Yankees Golden Past must be preseved forever!

From Jordan Ball:
i love yankke stadium i'd always enter throw gate 2 so that would be a huge memory for me

From George Sully Sullivan:
Please keep something as Great as Gate 2 for all to see and remember. Old Stadium should have upgraded a little. What memories we all had walking inside that gate and of all the Great Yankees and foes who played on that field. Please keep Gate 2 standing....Go Yanks

From John Clements:
do it.

From Chris Girgenti:
Short and sweet- the people of the Bronx and Yankee fans never had a choice in creating a new stadium. We never wanted it and everyone knows it. If you're not a Yankee or a baseball fan, take this baseball fan's word for it, I literally tear up everytime I see the real Yankee Stadium's demolition. Please, write, call and urge the powers involved to just work with the Gate 2 Memorial people in a give and take way and help create something to memorialize many lifetimes worth of Bronx summers past. Something left of those summers past for people from everywhere to touch on 161st St. That's a little magical, no? Everyone involved will look good in the end and no one will lose an election for leaving a wall up that memorializes Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Yankee Baseball in NYC. It's a good thing, it's the right thing. But, I'm preaching to the choir here. SW Chris Girgenti, The Bronx.

From Stuart:
What a fabulous ane well thought out proposal, preserving a piece of significant US and world history for all of us. Including people like me who would like one day to visit NYC as a tourist. Like Tigers Stadium we have done something like this with AFL Park in Melbourne victoria and it is very tasteful and sucesfull and indeed the entire carpark was made a housing estate so the old football ground is now a public park and sporting facility. Good luck I for one hope this happens. Cheers Stuart (Australia)

From Glenn M. Consor:
Even though I am a diehard NEW YORK METS fan,I respect the hertiage of baseball history. With that said, this historic stadium enterance way should be part of the next generation of New York Yankee fans as well as fans from all over the world!!!We shall fight this to the bitter end!!!

From Marty Tambasco:
What a wonderful plan in keeping the spirit and tradition of the original Yankee Stadium alive for the future generations of not only Yankee fans, but baseball fans alike. You should be applauded for your efforts. Here's wishing for a successful outcome on saving Gate 2 and a piece of the Old Yankee Stadium.

From richarad asaro:
I support you 100 per cent. Keep up the fight for Yankee tradition!

From chloe rachel:
i agree with everyone that says we should preserve Gate 2

From Mike Rachel:
I agree with Bart.

From shelly:

From Bart Miranda:
What an excellent plan.... I pray to God that somebody comes to their sense's and realizes you cannot destroy this building completely. I'd rather see them tear the white house!!! Yankee Stadium is an inconical building that should have been preserved since 9/21/08.....It's last game. How do you tear down any part of that building? Ok...I'm getting sentimental now.. The whole thing just digust me, I'm sure I'm not alone. I think I made my point!

From Mchael Vyce:
Would Love to see Gate 2 saved. We eed to preserve part of this historic landmark, for future generations.

From Bret:
While it's a nice idea and would be a wonderful tribute to the Cathedral, sadly, this may not happen. But keep fighting the good fight.

From paul parrino:
save as much as possible, the yankees should still be playing there.

From Scott :
Such a great idea. Of course I'd love if anything was saved from the REAL yankee stadium and left there at the site. It's such a crime to completely destroy such a historic place in the country's history. It was so much more than baseball to all of us yankee fans. This plan should be the least they do to leave a piece of the great past. Once it's gone it's gone. SAVE THE GATE!

From Ben Pyne:
I hope this gets saved.

From derrick brown:
i am gonna miss good old yankee stadium.

From John Rome:
any new news from the city on saving the gate?

From Scott:
This is a wonderful idea, I'm always in favor of preserving historical artifacts. I was never able to attend a game at the old Yankee Stadium before its demolition, and I believe that to keep the gate standing would be to keep the spirit of the stadium alive.

From Casey:
To the decision makers: please, please do this. It is an excellent idea and I too hope that all of the entrances will be saved so that they line the new park. I hope other items can be kept as well. This is so tremendously important to preserve this great monument to baseball and American history, especially in an age where it would appear that nothing is sacred and that baseball is destroying itself from the inside out. Please do not repeat the mistakes of the past, such as Ebbets, Polo Grounds, or Penn Station. Keep what we can of Yankee Stadium for future generations!

From Jose:
Excellent idea. I'm gonna dream a little more and wish they could preserve the other gates as well and also the back wall where the facade ran across. It would give great perspective to new generations who never got the chance to see it. SAVE GATE 2!!!

From Bart Badalucco:
Wonderful concept. The Yankees, parks dept and city of NY should embrace this plan on many levels. Historically, architecturally and as a place of interest for visitor's coming to the Stadium. A wonderful place for a family photo or to throw a ball with your kids. It would add a family element and offer an option as a pre-game destination while expanding the Stadium experience. As for the Bronx community, they've given up allot over the years and most recently a loss of much needed space for their kids to play. What a tribute to the community it would be to have "Gate 2" serve as the grand entrance to their new park.

From robertceranko:
To demolish Yankee Stadium completely is a sin.Not only is it a beautiful ballpark, but it is an historical structure as well. the new is not the old!!!!!!

From Jeremy:
great idea, with that gate you could maybe rebuild the stadium in your head, and tell generations of yankee fans where the stadium once was

From francisco portuondo:
this is probably the best idea they have had since god knows when. i believe that if they completely demolish the second most recognized building after the coloseum, generations will pass and they will have no idea of what yankee stadium is. i believe is a shame that my one year old daughter will not have a clue about the black seats, the gherig bat and everything else in between.

From Bob Mann:
It has taken years for me to come to grips with the fact that the old Yankee Stadium is doomed. I remember how my emotions changed during the renovation when demolition evolved into rebuilding. There will only be demolition this time. There's no "going home" as we did in 1976. Something must be saved. The Gate 2 plan is perfect. It will only make Heritage Field nicer and give it meaning. I embrace the new Stadium as home after the world championship. But we need a price of the old as well.

From Matt:
I hope that your plan works out. Even though I am not a Yankees fan, in fact I very much dislike them, I respect them and especially respect the old stadium and the baseball history that happened there. I don't see any reason why someone should be against your plan. Keep fighting to save a portion of that historic structure (which the Yankees never should have left in the first place.)

From David Mick:
keeping gate 2 is the type of idea the yankees themselves shoulda come up with. What reason is there NOT to do it?

From Albert:
This is a super idea. how can i get more involved?

From Conor:
Great idea! A great way to keep Yankee Stadium in our hearts forever.

From Daria DeBuono:
This is a great idea! And in all these years going to "old" yankee stadium, I never realized that front gate was the one behind the ticket kiosks. Amazing.

From Ray Bimbo:
My work takes me to Washington DC about 10 weeks a year and I have seen first hand how the area surrounding Ford's Theater was preserved but retaining the original 3-5 story building fronts, then constructing modern office building behind and above the original buildings. For months, all that stood were the original building fronts. The finish product is an area that preserves the history and allowed for modern expansion. If it can be done there, it must be done here.

From Jacob Osborne:
SAVE GATE 2!!!! IT WOULD BE AN AWESOME TRIBUTE TO CURRENT AND RECENT PLAYERS WHO PLAYED FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES

From Pasquale Salvatore:
A great idea, the Yankees are all about history and tradition, this would be a great way to preserve that history and tradition.

From RuthAnne Salvatore:
Save the Yankee legacy and preserve Gate 2 for the new Heritage Park!

From Tim Fogarty:
I'm with you. Save the Gate. Very hard to believe in thia day and age of historic preservation that we would collectively permit this edifice to be completely demolished. Can anyone say "Penn Staton" ?

From Chris Cooke:
We believe the Gate 2 memorial would be a fine remembrance.

From Paul Criscuolo:
Somethings are worth saving and this is one of them.... Once it is gone many will wish that this action was done... Save the GATE before it is to late. Let's all make the time to do the right thing so future generations to enjoy...

From A.J. Burnett:
not a Yankees fan, but love their history, Save the gate

From Don Sargent Jr:
A great way to save a piece of America's greatest Stadium and the history that happened there!!!!

From Angel Betances:
SAVE GATE 2... Fly the championship banners and remember History in the BRONX

From Karl Isenberger:
Not keeping the gate would be like the graves of Ruth and Gehrig having no headstone. I can't believe NYC government has no regard for such an iconic part of its history. Of course money is the issue, but here in Iowa we saved the "Field of Dreams" and it has become an asset and a cherished shrine for baseball fans. Mayor Bloomberg...save it, and they will come.

From wes :
This must be saved-there is no excuse because as the rendering shows, it will be physically attractive and will be an attraction in the city in coming years.

From Daisy Cabrera:
I am in favor of saving the gate.

From Jason:
I'll purchase a brick!

From John:
I just hope Bloomberg with his "anti-culture" status doesn't screw this up.

From Pat Leach:
Good Luck. This is a great cause. I support the "modifications."

From Cole A:
Even up here in the great white north (Canada) id like to see a piece of history preserved. Best of luck with saving the gate!

From V. Smith:
What a great idea! It's pretty sad how Penn Station's demise allowed Grand Central to live. Let's hope some part of the House that Ruth Built can be salvaged, with or w/o the Yankees help. They care only about the bottom line, which is why they alienated the Bronx residents who oppose this plan. Save the Stadium, don't give up!

From Helen A. Phung:
This is a terrific idea! I'm all in favor of saving the gate. (You should try to contact some of the big-name fans, like Spike Lee & Rudy Giuliani, & ask them if they'll join in!)

From Adam:
The proposal looks amazing. SAVE the GATE!! It is a rare piece of history and memories.

From Robb Hageman:
You guys are doing a great service. Everybody who lives in the bronx should be behind this. Imagine if a piece of Ebbets Field was preserved. Gate 2 has to be preserved, and the city should recognize this

From Stephen Leach:
Good Luck

From russell cannon:
Good luck! I was fortunate enough to get to visit the stadium in its last season. Its sad to see it gone for the over-priced creation across the street.

From Tony S:
Your news release is positive. You should be commended for not giving up the fight. We owe you a debt of gratitude. SAVE GATE 2!!!

From TimK:
Keep fighting to save just a small piece of this great shrine!!

From BK McDonald:
(My second comment): I'm for saving as much of the old stadium as possible. My wish would be to mark the location of the diamond with as much stadium as can be preserved.

From BK McDonald:
The gate idea is good. More important to me, a diamond should be placed exactly where the current one is. The Babe's footsteps.

From Patrick Graue:
Please Save This Historical Gate!

From Alexandra Stover:
how do you go about buying a brick?

From ALFONSO HUERTA ROMO:
SAVE THE GATE TO HEAVEN

From Amanda:
LETS GO YANKEES LETS Go yankee

From Joe Biesel:
GREAT IDEA!!! How do I go about purchasing a brick? Good Luck!!!

From scott:

From Chris:
Put me down for a brick.

From Germaine Kennedy:
I think this a wonderful idea and would love to help out! Love the Yankees!

From ed schmidt:
let keep the gate !!!! I'll buy a brick,I was born in the bronx, and lived on 172nd street, not far from the stadium. regards Ed Schmidt

From Bob Ruckel:
Wonderful idea, well presented and factual. Those of us who have loved and appreciated the "old" Yankee Stadium and a treasure and true landmark embrace this wholehardedly.

From Debi:
The gate must be saved!

From Justin Zachary:
This is the most famous stadium in America and needs to be preserved. It is not only part of NYC's history, baseball's history but America's history as well.

From Rob Lackner:
I think this is an amazing idea and would love to help out in anyway i can

From ira transport:
let's get this done i'll buy a brick

From Bobby Lynn:

From Bobby Lynn:
I have been to the old Yankee Stadium since I was 9 yrs. old, coming in on the No. 4 train from Yonkers, NY. I played high school baseball at the Macombs Dam field. I'm 56 yrs. old and I still remember it all ! Help preserve our memories for our grandchildren 1 Thank you.

From Sebastian Dancler:
i am a MAJOR red sox fan. and im all about preserving historical landmarks, like old yankee stadium. even though they decided to TEAR DOWN a piece of history, preserve the only thing left from day one; gate two. i know so many people who loved that gate, and its only right that there be SOMETHING to commemorate where a legendary figure in american sports once stood.

From Jeff:
Oh god for bid the city actually spends money on something people care about to remember to remember a great history of AMERICA'S GAME. They'll probably rip down the Empire State Building next and attempt to hide that it ever existed.

From Rick:
We tear down our Roman Colosseums. It's a shame. The old ballyard was a second home to me.

From J:
This proposal sounds great. Can you create an online petition that people can sign to show our support? (Like the "save the Home Run Apple" petition that some Mets fans made when Citi Field was being planned.) Perhaps this would help convince the powers that be.

From Frank Cantone:
I wish you all the best in this endeavor...I think it is a great idea and would be a fitting honor to the original stadium.

From Beverley O'Brien:
It should be an honour for the whole of New York to keep gate 2 for Heritage Park as a symbol for all youngest that play on the fields and for visitor to glance over from the new stadium to see a remembrance of the old.... Please NEW YORK; keep Gate 2 and what you can of the old stadium as a memory of the great players and Yankee fans. Gate 2 was my first walk into Yankee Stadium and I’ll never forget it. For the young players taking their first bat, fielding their first ball….to walk under the shrine of Gate 2 can only give them hope of one day walking through the gates across the road perhaps as a player in pinstripes in a New York Yankee uniform.

From Stephen Moschetta:
A very reasonable proposal to provide the essence of the old stadium while bridging to the new. I will send a letter to Mayor Bloomberg asking to go forward with this proposal and I will make my friends aware of the proposal and this website

From Joe:
I didn't get a chance to pay one final visit to old Yankees Stadium. It pains me that at the moment no trace of this Yankees Stadium will remain. This is a beautiful idea to provide all with a place to honor the original stadium, all the way back to 1923.

From Ethan:
I think that they should keep the Old Yankee Stadium fully and put a park inside of the Stadium.

From Michael Murphy:
I can't believe they are going to tear down the entire old stadium. Now I know The Boss is finally senile. Steiner Collectibles should go to hell.

From Bob Morf:
Time to bombard your politicians with email, snailmail and faxes to them know that at least this part of "The Real" Yankee Stadium should be saved and not sold off by Steiner Collectibles

From Patrick Clark:
I hope that this happens with all that has happened in that ball park how can we not go through with it and all the people that lived and died for Yankee baseball let's not let it die let's save it and keep it part of the new park.

From Glenn Gallowitz:

From Lawrence E. Benjamin:
This HAS to be saved. As an Architect, I'm all for sensitive development. There has to be "a visual language" left to see. I am a fan of the new ballyard and its "interpretation",but it's important to take the next generation to Gate 2 and say..."Look, you can even touch this !"

From JOSE MARTINEZ:
TOO MUCH HISTORY IN YANKEE STADIUM,THIS WAS THE HOUSE THAT RUTH, BUILT,WE NEED TO SAVE GATE 2,FOR THE BABE... AND ALL YANKEES FANS.

From Peter Poole:

From georgeanne moskal:
I support this plan 100%....it would be a shame not to have at least 1 piece of the "old" stadium preserved.

From Mike S:
To have no remnanats of the 'old' stadium is totally unacceptable. This would allow for at least some preservation of an historic landmark. 100% behind this plan!

From Felix :
this plan is great ! this should really happen the new york yankees and civilians and fans of new york city & yankees will be proud . a month ago i was beggininq to see the demolition & it made me think '' lets not forget about our real home'' & saving gate 2 will mourn us of the 86 years of greatness . also my dad worked in gate 2 since 1996. so there are great memories of gate 2 which is why we should save it . RIGHT ON ! SAVE GATE 2.

From Geoff:
There has to be something done to save what's left, so much history, so many memories, im speechless on how they could just tear it down.

From Charlie Bruber:
I think this plan is fantastic. The city of New York should understand that this needs to be done. Too much history is already being lost with the moving to the new Yankee Stadium. I hope this plan works. It is such a beautiful idea.

From Griffin Voorhees:
The idea to build a new stadium was absurd! I don't care how nice the new stadium is, you cant replace a historic stadium like Yankee stadium! I believe Steinbrenner knew he wouldn't own the Yankees for ever and thought he would put a lasting thumb print in the teams history and this was his choice, to build a new stadium. If he had his heart set to build a new stadium he should have kept the old stadium as is and turned the locker rooms/club house etc, into a New York Yankee Museum. I know many fans of the game who HATE the Yankees who are pissed about this decision to demolish the old stadium, but it looks like it is inevitable at this point. If saving gate #2 is all the hope we have left then I say lets fight to keep it. We need to fight to save gate #2!

From Don Walsh:
This is a great idea. This stadium is important to baseball and New York City. I believe it is the responsibility of the New York City Mayor to finance this project. This is extremely important for the history of New York City.

From Craig Rome:
We need to save this important piece of our history and culture.

From Kevin Rumble:
Saving gate 2 is the least we can do to remember the old park.

From Drew Sarver:
Keeping fighting the good fight! Drew mypinstripes.blogspot.com

From Rob Curtis:
Great idea. I would like them to save even more but that's another story.

From Deep quotes:
great site

From Kevin A. Proehl:
We need to preserve something of great value and sports history of the original Yankee Stadium.

From Vaughan Burton, Jr.:
Just to clarify, Anthony -- support for YOU and NOT for those who would level a classic ball park!

From Vaughan Burton, Jr.:
If Yankee fans and Red Sox fans can unite to save a piece of this hallowed structure, how can the effort be denied? This stadium had at least 20 more good years and is being torn down prematurely. Many children have unnecessarily been denied a chance to see a game at the park. These children MUST be allowed to stand beneath Gate 2 and hear the whispers of Ruth, Gehrig, Munson, Howard, Mercer, Martin and all the Yankee greats who played there. By the way, Anthony, you can count on THIS Yankee fan's support when they start coming after Fenway.

From Anthony Emerson:
I'm a Red Sox fan. But, Yankee Stadium was still one of the best stadiums in the big leagues, hands down. And I want at least a piece of it standing for future generations.

From K. Tas:
I live about 4 miles from Yankee Stadium and I'm a HUGE Yankee fan. Please save the gate for us and generations of Yankee fans to come!

From Scott Anderson:
i think it would be cool to save the gate. Im from Wisconsin so most likely will never see it in person, but i agree that some of theold stadium should be saved. There was lots of history made inside that ballpark

From Luis Orlando:
Keep the fight! Spread the message! You don't even have to be a Yankees fan to appreciate the memories that the original Yankee Stadium brings about baseball and all other sports, activities and personalities that made history in that field. Including of course, us the faithful fans! But being a Yankees fan, I think that what you are doing is imperative. All my respect for you! The Initial Plan from 2005, considered "that various parts of the Stadium infrastructure were to be retained". Why the change in the Current Plan? Your proposal, I think would be the equivalent to a "happy medium". Seriously, as a Yankees fan, a baseball fan and a NYC tourist, it would mean a lot to visit the site and at least take a picture at the new Heritage Park with the historic Gate 2 on the background. Remember Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Joe Louis and all the great fans that walked through that doors! Save the Gate... Good luck my friends!

From christopher sandelli:
Save the gate already!!

From Ken Siri:
I am on board, save the gate!

From scott barclay:
simply put, ONCE ITS GONE ITS GONE

From Bill from Long Island:
I support your idea of Gate 2. I've been a Yankee fan all my life. I did the tour of the old Stadium and the new. The new is nice, but the old has the memories.

From Ben:
Great idea.If they are gonna demolish the stadium. there might as well be something to remember it by and to show future generations.

From williamfedak:

From Albert Rodriguez:
I think this idea is BRILLIANT. Just because the new stadium bears the name of the old, that does not mean that we shouldn't have something to show our children and the next generation of the greatest stadium to ever be constructed. Save the Gate!

From Bobby Alperin:
The new Yankee Stadium is facsimile borrowing the name of the greatest baseball venue of "all time". I realize "everything" comes to an end; but we still have a chance to now "extend" it's life; please leave us something to "touch and feel"...leave the gate in place.

From Michael Kirsh:
I attended games at the original Yankee Stadium from 1977 to 2008. Like so many, my dad (now deceased) took me to my first game there. Your mission and message are spot on. Good luck with your efforts.

From Greg Cola:
What a great idea! Who do we need to get on our side????

From Lisa Michelle Murano:
Excellent idea!! Save Gate 2!!

From Steve Taranto, Bronx 1958:
Great Idea. Makes me want to cry. We need to do it.

From Andrew R:
Preserving Gate 2 is a perfect way to keep the tradition of the old Stadium alive without putting an undue burden on the City or its residents. The gate already exists; nothing new needs to be built. Keeping the gate would be dirt cheap and would enchance the excitement of visiting Heritage Field.

From Greg Schaentzler:
As a native of the Bronx, and lifelong Yankee fan, the complete destruction of the world's modern day Colosseum would be a travesty. The Yankees are part of American culture, and Yankee Stadium's history the setting. Please save a piece of it for my children and grand children, so that they can walk through the same gate all of us did. So that they can at least touch it, while they listen to their crazy father's Yankee stories lol.

From Mark Metrinko:
I sat in right field for game 6 in '96 with my Dad. I remember everything. It's hard to think that when I take ym kids to Yankee Stadium, there may be NOTHING there to say, "Here's where pop and I went to see them play." This would be an AMAZING tribute and a way to honor the history and welcome the future!!! I AM ALL FOR IT!!! I think it would be beautiful - especially if they moved it right across from the Babe Ruth section outside of the new stadium.

From Gabriel Gonzalez:
I believe that after over 85 years of history, something should remain to live on as the memory for those who never saw "The House That Ruth Built", for all eternity.

From Juan Malaka:

From Michael DiFazio:
This is a great proposal. Gate 2 or something should still remain from the past.

From Mike Mannino:
SAVE GATE 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!

From Greg Levy:
I say we get as many people as possible and surround the stadium so they can't knock it down. eventually they'll give in and agree to the plan

From richard reszka:
let's save gate 2 and most of all remember the player's that played on this sacred ground.let's preserve the past and the great history of the "sacred ground" before us.GO YANKS !!! AND LET'S SAVE A PART OF TRUE HISTORY.

From Bradford H. Turnow:
Let's hope that New York City supports this amazing project and Gate 2 is saved. This most important project will be a link to the past as well as preserve history for future generations to come. Let's Save the Gate today! www.HistoryOfTheYankees.com

From graham murdaco:
If there not listening to 90% of people including families members of the victims of the 9/11 attacks to rebuild the WTC twin towers what makes you think gate 2 will be saved? As great of an idea that this is the suits who run things in this city dont care! But maybe something good can come from this. http://www.wtc2011.com, please support the campaign to rebuild the twin towers. Thanks go Yankees!

From John Boturla:
The best idea I have seen since they decided to dismantle the cathedral of baseball!

From Peter Michielini:
It only makes sense to do this.

From eddie black:
i sure hope you are successful. totally tearing down the old stadium would be a huge loss that could never be brought back. good luck.

From Kevin Hill:
From Kevin Hill: It was a sad day this past Sunday when I returned to the Bronx's and seen the "Grand Old Lady" being destroyed. This is the house where baseball became what it is today. Shame on the city for not doing more. They get sponsors for everything under the sun but they can not get any one to sponsor the saving of at least a part of this icon. Shame on the City of NY and the New York Yankees. If it does not fill there pockets with gold then they don't want to have any part of it. Do they forget if it was not for us fans who in every way pave the way for that wonderful new stadium? We want the past preserved as well. If they can pay one billion for a new one then a few millions more does not matter at this point to save something from the "Real" home of the Yankees. Step up to the plate like the men before us did (Ruth, Gerig, Mantle, DiMaggio) SAVE IT NOW!!!!

From Francisco Tauriello:
Has anyone tried to get this info to Sterling, Kay, or Waldman? They need to bang the drum on this one.

From Ross Sharp:
There should be a concerted effort made to preserve some physical aspect of the old Stadium; this is a very worthy attempt to do just that.

From joe rosado:
this is great, and i don't think that would me asking for much considering all the years and memories the stadium has provided to all us yankee fans.......save the gate !!!!!

From Dr Dean LOmbardo:
Have not we learned anything? It is high time we stop erasing all physical references to such wonderful places.

From Dick Muller:
As a Local 40 Ironworker that reconstructed Yankee Stadium for Karl Koch for 19 months back in the 70's, this preservation makes me feel that all that work won't be forgotten.

From Rich from Jersey:

From David Rohlfing:
Have been a Red Sox fan for 56 years and think that saving the gate is a good idea. I never cared for the post-1973 mutilation of teh Stadium, and a chunk of the real YS would be great to save. This idea makes sense.

From Matt Franzblau:
Your Gate 2 plan is a fitting and elogant tribute to the most iconic stadium since the Roman Coliseum. I sure hope it comes to fruition. Good luck, you have my full support!!!

From William Ystueta:
Great plan

From Desmond Bailey:

From Tom Machin:
I believe that the city could have avoided tearing down the old stadium by using it for a minoe league team or partial demolotion for little league fields. This is a fantastic idea. Leave gate 2 as a memorial.

From denise a giaimo:
This is part of history and should not be torn down.

From Thomas Thibault:
There is so much history that took place in that old stadium. They need to leave part of it as a memorial.

From Kimberly Waddell:

From ltlflip:

From Robert Kerr:
That would be a great way to remember the House that Ruth Built.

From Frank X Burzimati:
What a great idea.Something needs to be left. Why not this historic piece of the old stadium.

From Virginia Wurthmann:
Saving the gate is the absolute minimum that should be done. I had thought that the outside structure of the stadium was to be preserved, with playing fields for the community built inside; but I see I was wrong. It breaks my heart to pass the Stadium now and see ugly, black netting surrounding the structure, in anticipation of demolition. What a disgrace that this beautiful, historic place is being demolished for no meaningful reason. (As another comment states: For a mall with high end restaurants.) Yankee fans and anyone interested in the history of the borough and City have been so betrayed.

From joe rosado:
save the gate !

From brian:
I guess none of you have read my comment below. I bet none of you are from NY either. It's NOT going to happen. NYC has already decided.

From Janet Hernandez:
I think it would be a great tribute to "the House that Ruth built." I'd like to see something left of the Original stadium.

From Mike:
I think preserving Gate 2 is a great idea. Why does this country destroy everything while the Europeans go to great lengths to preserve things? I recently visited the new stadium and it was very heart breaking to see what is happening to the grand old ball park across the street.

From Adam:
Any part of the Stadium that can be saved is worthwhile. After all of the old Stadium merchandise is sold following the hoopla of the 2008 final season, powers that be will pretend that it never existed. The novelty of a new stadium lasts a few years, and by 2012 they want the new facility to also masquerade as the historical one. Whatever is left over from the authentic Stadium reminds people that the big ticket is not the one with the history, lessening the appeal.

From Ray:
Great idea, Save the gate!!!

From john savino:
ANYTHING that can be saved from the original yankee stadium should be! I was born and raised in the BX and reside in CA. Still a diehard yankee fan. No team in all of sports comes close to the yankees regarding tradition!

From zerena (jonathan's sister) :
i believe history is a big part of our lives and the yankees are part of history we need to save gate 2 so that we remember the greatness of baseball!

From Evelyn:
Save gate 2

From John Lind:
Please NYC doing something correct in this process....SAVE GT2

From Bob Scerbak:
What a great concept.

From Andrew:
Save Gate 2! I want to be able to show my kids a part of history on our way to the new Stadium

From fernando:
SAVE GATE 2!!!!

From Joe Mariani:
Cool idea, no reason why it shouldn't be implemented. Once a landmark is gone, it's gone for good...

From A. Zeron:
PLEASE, JUST Save Gate 2 and allow us some tangible link with the greatest most historic icon cathedral ever.

From Ben Suarez:
I say keep the gate and accept the proposal. Don't let what happened to Ebbets Field and the Polo Grounds happen the Yankee Stadium... I think Yankee Stadium is worth more than just a plaque on a new field...

From Michael Brody:
what a great idea-many memories walking throough to our seats for twnety years

From Geoff Meyerson:
SAVE GATE 2

From Jonathan Zeron:
Save Gate 2! It is all we will have left of this once great cathedral. Why we moved to a smaller more expensive "Mall" across the street is beyond me. We should have done another renovation, the Red Sox beat us on that one, because the new ballpark is just a Mall with a baseball field inside of it.

From mike meyerson:
SAVE IT! It would be the perfect monument to the old ballpark.

From brian:
I am behind this all the way and have gotten people to sign on, but an article in today's(8-17)Daily News says that the city will NOT save the gate.

From Tiffany:
I think the plans for saving gate two are absolutely amazing. It will forever stand as a reminder of what we cherished for so long. I am very much for it and will gladly do my part to see it happen.

From George Katsiavos:
This is the perfect way to honor a team that is responsible for making baseball important. The yankees are all about tradition .. this is the perfect way to honor the past.

From Derrick Smith:
This is absolutely an inspired idea! Brilliant! This would be a fitting tribute to all the Yankee legends past, present and future. Please get this information out to all the fans and lets get this proposal accepted! We're New Yorkers; we can do anything!!!!

From Adam Sande:
This is a great idea. The locals should stop complaining and be grateful they are getting all this brand new parkland.

From Carol Shapiro:
"And there used to be a ballpark where the field was warm and green And the people played their crazy game with a joy I'd never seen And the air was such a wonder from the hot dogs and the beer Yes, there used a ballpark right here" SAVE GATE 2!!!!!!

From Eugene Hawkins:
That would be great. Are you serious to think it would anything else but great? In the last couple of months I've seen the area around Yankee stadium turn into one of the best places to visit.

From Florida_Yankee_Fan:
Save Gate 2 already!allow us some tangible link with the greatest, most historic and most iconic baseball cathedral ever constructed.

From Zig :
I think the plan to Save Gate 2 is great.... The old Yankees stadium was and always should be a big part of the Bronx, New York and Baseball. Let's all do what we can to save a part of "The House That Ruth Built".

From Obie Hunt:
What Mr.Mole wrote in the 8/14/09 Daily News editorial made sense. Gate 2 could still be used as a park enterance and it would be a way of preserving a piece of the Yankees' glorious past. Save it.

From Yankee48:
My grandfather worked at yankee stadium for 48 years, and passed down the love of the yankees to me, his granddaughter. I had partial season tickets starting in '07 (b/c I could finally afford it on my own) and always entered in Gate 2, the memories I have in that park are endless. To have a piece of that park that still exists, where I can bring my children one day, would be a joy to experience. Thank you for your efforts. Go Yankees!

From Rob Riccardelli:
This is a great idea ! It should be done.

From Mark House:
Just save it!!

From Joe:
The original Stadium is our "Coliseum"! Why wouldn't you preserve such a piece of history?? Preserve Gate 2!! It will be worth it.

From aric:
I agree with Debra... Where are the petitioners at the new stadium asking for signatures???? Few people even know about this idea. I came across it by accident. GET THE WORD OUT THERE TO THE FANS!!

From Johnny Bronxville:
Saving Gate 2 is another way of extending the historic/tradition of Yankee Stadium. A conversation piece for years to come, people will look and say "thats the gate from the original Yankee Stadium". Even though they are saying it changed during the renovations, I still think it should be preserved and used for the new park.

From Michelle S.:
It is a shame that they moved the stadium across the street at all!! I am still sick over it! Anything that perserves the memory of any part of the stadium is worth saving..Save Gate 2!!!!!

From jerry from the bronx:
save gate 2 as a tribute to all the historcal events that transpired here.the red sox were cursed for 100 years for trading babe ruth, what curse will the yankees incur for tearing down his house.

From Jeannine Rippa:
Keep Gate 2

From karen Abriss:
keeping gate 2 would pay tribute to all the great baseball players from all the teams that played in Yankee stadium in the past. It would add a beautiful touch to what would be an ordinary neighborhood ball feild

From Alan Abriss:
It's a no brainer. I grew up 4 blocks from Yankee Stadium, I was at the last game played there before the renovation. This is a marvelous tribute to a bygone era and the perfect way to preserve a piece of Bronx history. Save the gate indeed. Where is the petition, I'll sign it. Go Yankees!

From Danny Rossner:
Save Gate 2 is very important.. Anything I can do please let me know. GO YANKS

From aldo meraglia:
I feel that as atribute to the old school Yankees,Mantle Berra, Ruth, Gehrig, etc the gate should be preserved. This is a remembrance of the way the game used to be, not the way it has become.Any fan of the sixties would agree.

From Lai Quock:
It's a greate idea. Please save Gate 2, it is a part of Yankee history!

From James A.:
Save Gate 2 ! Something must be preserved to show the fans and future generations where some of the greatest events in basbeball and sports history took place.

From William Edward:
Great Idea! The new stadium was nothing but a money grab. That is hallowed ground and preserving Gate 2 is a no brainer!

From Kenny Whelan:
Not only should the gate be preserved but they also should have taken the top layers of dirt from the old stadium ands transported it to the new stadium

From Robin Newell:
I just scrolled down to the end and saw the comment by Debra Christie about how there should be petitions to sign outside the New Yankee Stadium. That is a great idea! I have tickets to a few more games this season and I would love to see people with petitions when I'm there. Let's make this happen!!! LETS GO YANKEES!!!!!!!

From Vinnie Tavormina:
Hopefully, someone with a brain will realize that this is a must do.

From Linda Kaplan:
Let us not make the same mistake as when the Original Penn Station was completely destroyed. Let us keep gate 2 as a permanent tribute to "the house that Ruth buitlt" and baseball history it evokes. In Europe, history is maintained and revered. Let us do the same.

From Robin Newell:
Great Idea! From 1958-2008, I passed through Gate 2 to enter what I've affectionately referred to as "The Cathedral" hundreds of times. How cool would it be to have Gate 2 standing majestically across from the very fine New Yankee Stadium? Good Luck with the project.

From FX:
just do it

From Lil:
It's a big part of Yankee history. Save the gate.

From Richard Serrano:
Great idea. I went to Atlanta and saw a Braves game, they saved the wall of the old Fulton County stadium where Hank Aaron hit his last home run. This would be great for tourists.

From Eddie:
The preservation of gate 2 is a great idea. It would serve as a great portico to park that is rich in not just Yankee history, but the scene of what many consider to be the greatest football game ever played. The stage of many boxing bouts such as Joe Lewis and Max Schmeling that had world wide political ramifications. The Papal visits. The gate should stand as an entrance to a Field that has so much National and World wide historical value.

From Rob Valenti:
LET'S GET THIS DONE!

From Sad Bronx Cheer:
The Yankees have been our gladiators for so many New Yorkers of different generations, ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic status and any other variables that may serve to separate or divide one person from another. All differences were laid aside when inside our Cathedral watching our shared heroes, our gods among men, clash with our shared enemy on the most beautiful emerald and hazel battlefield one could ever imagine. Our warriors, through the ages and in the footprints of the legendary champions before them, fought, bled, celebrated and even shed tears; we were all one in our Cathedral, collectively feeling and sharing every emotion of our pinstriped warrior-gods. There were miracles witnessed by followers of every religion that made the pilgrimage to our shared Cathedral. We returned there and thought of good friends passed and brought our children to immerse them in the greatest atmosphere while speaking with reverence of the feats of brilliance we had personally been blessed to witness. This was a cherished tradition passed down through the generations. Our Cathedral, our coliseum, has been replicated, but cannot ever be replaced. The faithful masses of believers, to a person, never uttered a word of disrespect of our house of worship. We never appealed for a new sanctuary to see our heroes continue their unparalleled crusade. To do so would have been blasphemy. We the faithful have been betrayed and are now relegated to begging for something, anything, to remember the most physically and emotionally revered, cherished and beloved field of memories and legends of our experience here on Earth. When the generations to follow speak of us, it will be to say, "How could they have let that happen?" We have shamed our heroes by meekly leaving our shared Cathedral like a flock of sheep and worshipping the false idol that blasphemes the name and memory of our hallowed ground.

From Frank Gesuele:
The MT Olympus of Baseball should have the gate to greatness preserved for future generations to see.

From Cindi:
What can I do to make this a reality

From Fadi Hanna:
I am very much behind the proposal of saving gate 2 from the old Yankee Stadium. Great Idea! Thanks for coming up with this proposal... hopefully, there will be agreement on this!

From Gino Padula:
Great idea, do we have any political support on this? Where is Rudy when you need him?

From Zulma :
LOVE IT !!!!! I would like to keep spreading the word how do I sign the petition and have fans and family do so as well?

From matthew devitt:
They should of never built the house of greed.... but since they did, this would be the best way to remember the house that ruth built.......

From Michael Pisano:
Please save the gate let us have one little piece of the hold stadium to remember

From SB Johnson:
brilliant solution!

From Joe Muscatello:
ive been a yankee fan since 1935 as far as im concerned theres only one yankee statium and thy are tearing it down iam all for preserving gate2 at least it wiil giveus a piece of the great yankee statium of old

From laura sarter:
WE need it...we want it !!!

From Brendan Goldblatt:
Great idea, I was hoping we could do this. Let me know what I can do to help.

From THOMAS SHANKER:
please keep me informed of what is going on with the Gate2!!! i want to sign the petition too.

From daniel tiesi:
what do we have to do to save the tiny piece of histroy

From Audrey Guadagno:
Great idea!!!

From Chris Arnadopoulos:
GREAT IDEA !!!!! Where's the petition to sign!?

From Lorenzo Higuera:
I still don't understand why the entire stadium did not get nat'l monument status given its historical significance.

From Angelo Patti:
I believe that "regret" is the only feeling that most people will get if some part of the stadium is not preserved. This is a very good solution and should be strongly considered.

From Fran Pataffi:
don't let the younger generation never see the beauty and magic of the original Yankee Stadium. Keep gate 2 alive for generations to come.

From pat yeager:
Great idea!! Is there a petition or an address where we can address our concerns?

From Myron:
This is a great idea. I wish the entire field could be saved but this is better than nothing. Remember what happened to Shea, it's now a parking lot with no markers showing where the mound was, where the Pope held Mass or anything else.

From BT:
Great idea? Where's the petition to sign?

From barbara carnival:
You should try to link the letter to the elected officials e-mail. Would make it easier to submit.

From Nicholas Gallucci:
You should include printable letters to the various elected officials for people visiting this site to sign and send to the people who will ultimately make the decision on keeping this gate. I agree that too much of our past has been torn down in the name of "improvement" that we can't even bring our children to see what it really was like. A good example of this is the old "Garden" uptown.

From Mitchell:
Not only would this preserve a piece of NY and American culture, but it wouldn't increase costs in any way. A perfect way to remember the real House That Ruth Built.

From GIna Finocchio:
I'm behind you 100%. I think it's a great idea. What can we do to assist in this endeavor?

From CHARLES LAZZARO:
I certainly support your efforts. The Parks Department should see this proposal as a win-win situation. Perhaps in a mayoral election year, it will become reality.

From Frank Penna:
Being a life long yankee fan and having attended many games at the old Yankee Stadium as I grew up and continued that practice till today with my children, I believe what you are trying to accomplish is GREAT and I agree with you 100%! What a great thing to preserve and have for future generations and for those who attended games at the "old" stadium what a great memory that would be to see as we go to the "new" stadium today. Hopefully, someone will listen!!!

From Conor Patrick:
I will send the letter first thing in the morning. From Apex, NC!!! I need that one piece to stay. It's the least they can do after taking the stadium away!

From Chris:

From Brian Wright:

From Worl:
...shouldn't even be an issue,,let the soft breezes of spring continue to blow through Gate 2 and along with them the memories of all that was great in American sports....

From Jeff Marzari:
Save this great piece of Yankee history for everyone and future generations to enjoy. It will be a great way for everyone to remember the historic landmark

From Chris Gordon:
Save it! A relatively easy way to honor the great history of the old stadium. I don't know why anyone would oppose this.

From Chad Barnes:
This is an absolute "no-brainer". As a lifetime fan who dreamed of playing at Yankee Stadium, it would be an honor to be able to walk through gate 2 and then on to new Heritage Field to realize at least a semblance of that dream. Without the gate as a living shrine, it's not the same.

From Bryan S.:
Padre fan in San Diego says SAVE IT!!! They couldn't do it in Detroit, so we can't afford to let another baseball cathedral vanish into the night.

From Jon Prosapio:
Please save this piece of history thats meant so much to me and other yankee fans, players, rivals, opponents, owners, broadcasters, and so much more.

From Fred:
SAVE GATE 2!!!

From Kenneth Kiefer:
Great idea,Lets save apart of history for our future Yankee fans.

From Ken Lyles:
Please.... Lets get this done!

From Joe Charles:
I think that saving Gate 2 would be a great gift for the NY Yankees to give to the tax payers of New York who financed such a large portion of their $1.5 billion stadium? They could probably finance it with about a week of ARod's salary.

From Joe Charles:
Why not just save the entire 'real' Yankee Stadium? We seem to be the only culture that would tear down important historical landmarks. I am thankful that Jackie O helped spearhead the preservation of Grand Central Station. It is tragic that Penn Station wasn't saved. I save, keep Gate 2 and the rest of Yankee Stadium as well!!!

From TN:
What are the arguments AGAINST this proposed idea? Saving Gate 2 will preserve the world's greatest sports landmark. When fans come out of the new stadium they will be able to see a "gateway" to baseball's historic past. Future generations can enjoy part of what we've all had a privilege in experiencing.

From Frankie Mele:
Im a 14 year old boy in croton. I love the yankees and loved yankee stadium. I love the idea of saving the gate but the offices wont listen or do anything about it, they dont want to spend the money. I went to alot of yankee games last year including the all star festivities. From what i origionaly heard was that they would keep but slowly the yankees have changed plans to nothing there. This is an historical landmark and they don't realize. You dont see people tearing down the colleseum in Italy. This place was my home away from home and the last time i stood in that place i wept looked around and cried for about 45 minutes before securtiy made me leave. It's sad to se the old stadium to go but this new stadium is making the fans forgetting all the memories of the old one. People should join this cause becase if they cant keep the stadium they should at least save part of it.

From Anthony Ruiz:
Why didn’t anyone think of this before? Saving Gate 2 is a brilliant idea. A note should not only be sent to the Mayor and Bronx Borough President. It should also be sent to the Steinbrenners. It’s a fitting monument to Yankee History, 25 World Series Championships, and 39 American League Pennants. Not to mention the place where the most celebrated players of Major League history played, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Yogi Berra. Saving Gate 2 will serve as an ‘Arc de Triomphe’ of baseball history past, present, and future.

From Bucky Nance:
I never made it to Yankee Stadium. Baseball is a strong part of my relationship with my father and he was a Yankees fan through and through. He took me to Texas Rangers games growing up in Texas. I would hope that this gate is preserved only for sons to enter the gate with their fathers who took them their before and I hope one day to be able to take my father to Yankee Stadium before he dies.

From Ed Niklas:
This die-hard Mets fan says: "If we can save only one piece of N.Y. MLB history, The Gate would be my choice."

From CLAY MARSTON:
YES, THIS WOULD BE A SENSIBLE AND VERY IMPORTANT THING TO DO AS SO MANY OF THE GREAT SPORTS ARENAS AND STADIUMS HAVE BEEN TOTALLY TAKEN DOWN / REMOVED SUCH AS WHAT HAS MOST RECENTLY TAKEN PLACE WITH TIGER STADIUM WHERE SO MANY GREAT MOMENTS IN SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT TOOK PLACE ... THESE GREAT PANTHEONS NEED TO BE WHOLLY OR PARTIALLY RETAINED AS EXAMPLES OF THE HISTORY THEY DENOTE AND RECALL FOR SO MANY.

From Eric Miller:
Gate 2 is a wonderful idea preserving the days of Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, and Mantle for my children and their children to enjoy!!

From Pete:
It would be a great tribute to the greatest stadium America has ever knwon.

From Michael Cerisano:
It must be saved! We should learn from the past!

From Anthony Crescenzi:
GATEWAY TO HEAVEN

From Ernie De Paolantonio:
I think that Gate 2 is a great idea and a fitting tribute to the "Greatest Stadium" and their fans.

From Alex:
I love gate 2. I entered there every season I had tickets!

From will:
save the most historic part of sports history for the people of New York!

From George McCreadie:
I think it's a great idea to preserve a part of the historic Yankee Stadium. Save gate 2.

From willie:
From the perspective of a true SPORTS FAN: Who wouldn't want to see remnants of Ebbet's Field? The Polo Grounds? Original MSG from the 30s? Come on, folks, let's leave this up as a salute to our past

From KEN D.:
ST.Vals A.C.hopes and prays that gate 2 is saved in order to keep the memories of the HOUSE that RUTH built alive for generations to come!

From Benjamin Heyman:
Can you give any more specifics on how we can be of any assistance, including donations and petitions? Also, have you had any success in dealing with Mayor Bloomberg and the city council? LETS GO YANKEES

From Rick Kreie:
this is a great idea to save gate 2, hope it gets the go-ahead & look forward to seeing it someday while going to see a game.

From Myron Prokipchak:
A memory of something grate that will never be forgotten.

From Michael McGowan:
This is such a simple solution to such an emotional issue. SAVE GATE 2!

From Kenny Eicher:
Save the gate.

From Diane Gagliardo:
At least keep the gate.

From Diane Roszkowski:
I have wonderful memories from the old stadium. Save the Gate!

From Javier Anderson:
Yankee Stadium has meant a lot to me over the years. It is terrible that we put profits over ethics when we pass over the commuinity and sencelessly cause more harm all for the sake of making a quick buck. At least with this plan we will have something left to hold, touch and see about our past.

From Javier Anderson:
Please Save this Gate! Why are we demolishing the Old Stadium ANYWAY!!!

From Kathy Roe:
This shouldn't even be an issue! Save the Gate, remember the past and honor it!

From Barbara Farley:
What a wonderful tribute to an icon!

From Troy Ciccone:
You should have saved the whole stadium but at least save GATE 2.

From Louis DiLullo:
In the name of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, and Munson, please let something they built stand! yankeetradition.com

From Maureen Lopez:
If you coulnd't save the old Stadium, AT LEAST Save Gate 2!!! "Thanks For The Memories," my old and dear friend!

From mary mackeith:
i wish the entire old stadium could be turned into a museum. at least save gate 2!

From Carol Meaney:
Fabulous plan. I'll do me part to encourage others make some noise with me on this issue.

From Jerrold Levy:
Preserve the memories and allow those who will never have seen The House That Ruth Built to experience part of it. Keep Gate 2 Alive!

From Joe Bocchino:
I've always gone through this gate when I went to the games, not knowing it was original! The city needs to do everything in it's power to maintain this wonderful piece of history! SAVE GATE 2!!!!

From Greg Lemon:
I'm not a yankees fan. I'm not american. I'm a jays fan from toronto and even I know its wrong to demolish this building. But if it has to be done, save GATE 2.

From Allen Hubbard:
i wrote dozens of letter to NYC and the historical society to save the stadium and all replied that it had been altered too many times. so after months i see this and i am so happy. someone is trying to save something, new york seems to think its not worth saving but we need to change their mind. any help i can be please let me know

From scott carroll:
I look at the demolition pictures and just wonder how people could tear down such a big piece of American culture. If gate 2 can not be saved it would be devastating.SAVE GATE 2

From Ronald Gurney:
On June 2, I wrote to Mayor Bloomberg. On July 9, I received the "canned" response that there are no current plans to preserve Gate 2, but that the plan provides for Championship Field, sections of the frieze, plaques, markers and preserving the bat. I guess the city and the Steinbrenners are too busy selling off the old stadium, piece by sod piece and really don't care about the loss of this historic place. Gone are Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds, Highland Park, and soon the "House that Ruth Built". So short-sighted and such a loss!

From Debbie Temple:
It's hard to even imagine that NYC would allow the original Yankee Stadium to disappear! We have to "Save the Gate!"

From Elijah Goodman:
I think this is a fantastic plan. I desperately hope that you are successful. Good Luck!

From Sean Herlihy:
I think this is a GREAT idea, that should be done.I have so many great memories of the old stadium, just as so many others do.As i take my children to the new stadium across the street as they get older,I will be able to show them a part of the old stadium and tell stories of where daddy used to go watch the Yankees! I hope this happens, and thanks to all that helped start this great idea.

From Stacy:
save the gate- its the right thing to do!

From joe quinlan:
save the gate.that stadiums been around so long itd be a crime not to save if not all of it at least a lasting piece.100% for it.

From Mike:
this is a brilliant plan. I support this 100%

From wanda:
SAVE THE GATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Eddie Garcia:
this is genius! saving @ the very least the gate is something that the city of NY owes the yankee organization as well as their fans for all of the working capital created by this site! Not 2 keep it would b an injustice!

From karen:

From jerri filardi:
I am all for it, Save the Gate. But they should have saved the stadium, the house the Ruth built. Wake up NY

From Phillip M. Cicione:
This is a great idea that will benefit baseball fans and historians for generations to come. Too often we tear down the past without realizing the consequences of losing our history.

From Sebastian Stefano Torrente:
Save the gate!

From Jose Flores:
great idea. ebbits field is gone and so is the polo grounds with nothing that honors those historical buildings left behind. Time for the Yankees and NYC to do something right for a change.

From Aaron:
They must save Gate 2!!!!!!

From Marshal Atwater:
With you all the way! Long live Yankee Stadium.

From Don Granzin:
I visited Yankee Stadium in May 2008 to see two games. My only and last chance. I'm glad that there is a preservation plan for saving at least some of the old ballpark. There should have been the same type of plan in place for Tiger Stadium and Comiskey Park, among others. These ballparks were historical landmarks and should have been preserved in some way and now it's too late. Don't let that happen to Yankee Stadium.

From Mike:
Great idea! In 75 years in can included in the #3 Yankee Stadium!

From Thomas Adamo:
Save Gate 2 of Yankee Stadium. Great Plan.

From Tony:
How could this great idea not be taken seriously by the Yankees and the city. It would be horrible if nothing from the old stadium is preserved. Haven't we learned from Ebbet's Field or The Polo Grounds?

From Gandalfstormcrow:
Save this historic symbol!!!!

From Adam Schwartz:
Great idea! Who would obejct to this?

From James Husvar:
The least I could do was to send those letters. I was shocked and disappointed when no person or group stepped up to recognize the original Stadium as an historical site, to be somehow preserved and remembered, prior to your efforts. If NYC can preserve warehouses as historic, why not Gate 2 at the very minimum?

From Linda Johnson:
Looks like an awesome plan.

From Larry:
Saving Gate 2 is a GREAT idea! We've lost other classic parks in NYC (Ebbets Field and the Polo Grounds). I think that the most storied ballpark in all of baseball history deserves to at least have a small portion retained for the ages.

From Erwin Bernal:
http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?oid=74188349372&view=all#/album.php?aid=2190061&id=16104365

From Erwin Bernal:
Dear Mark and everybody who showed up today, It was great meeting all of you today and letting me help you guys out. Pictures are coming along the way, and thank you for putting this much time and effort into it. I used to enter through those gates all the time, part of my childhood. I hope that everything works out.

From Christopher Teta:
This is an awesome idea.

From Rebecca Hancock:
Please Save The Gate as it is an important part of America's History!!!!!!

From Jose Angel Velez:
Save the Gate!, it's part of Bronx, New York, American History. My son and I cried the last time we saw Yankee stadium, when we flew over it on the way home to NM. I love the part idea but let's save the gate.

From Steve:
Save the gate!

From Elisa DV:
Fantastic idea. The Yankees have been my family's team since the 1920's. Preserve the history of the old stadium. Great way to relate to the new stadium as well. When you start asking for donations for this project, I'll give.

From Kevin Higgins:
Save the Gate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From tony:
i think its a great idea!!! good luck with it!@!!

From Tom Bledsoe:
Let's pitch this economically. People will visit this site just to see the gate and walk around the park. I know I would. This idea has an obvious tourist dollar benefit.

From John P.:
I'm not even a Yankee fan, and I think it would be a shame not to save a piece of history. Save the gate!!

From John Pakutka:
Dear Steinbrenner Family, NYC Officials and Residents of the Bronx; This plan is a way of paying homage to all the Yankee history, players and fans. The ground is indeed hollowed. We know where Lou Gehrig stood while giving his farewell speech, where Reggie tossed his bat after his 3rd HR, and where Thurman's spot stood vacant. 26 Championships. Where we came together after September 11 to grieve, and to hope. There is the gate we passed through with our fathers and mothers, as they had with theirs. And so on. Go look where the Polo Grounds stood. Go see the pictures of old Penn Station. Is this what we want for this sacred place? No memory of the Yankee history, of our history. Please save the gate and the diamond of the House that Ruth built, and the one in which we loved, cried, and grew.

From Jim Stewart:
As a kid from the Bronx I couldn't be happier to hear about this effort. Much of my life has been spent in the "real" Yankee Stadium, both as a customer and a media member. I first walked into the building in 1947 so you can see why I am excited about your effort.I totally support it. Let's hope you can get this done!

From Samuel Rivera:
What a great idea! Why not. The City of New York kept the abandoned elevated west line and turned it to a park. This gate-way across from the new ball park will be a nice added feature to the area. They can't say not to this it wouldn't cost much.

From John Challender:
I think that is a great way to preserve a part of this historical landmark. What a fun way to share baseball history with our kids!

From Andrew Mearns:
The Stadium was a landmark of New York City for 85 years. Leaving Gate 2 up would be a nice way of remembering the great stadium.

From John Yerkovich:
I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! After the closing of The Stadium I have realized I was a bigger fan of where the Yankees played than the Yankees themselves. I've been to countless games and I was at the last game and I haven't watched a Yankee game since. I refuse to ever attend a game in the new park and I was sickened to know that there were no plans to keep any portion of the original building itself. This is just WONDERFUL!!! I hope the city listens!!!

From Lynda Sickler:
I'm in, save the gate!

From John Covello:
Great work your doing to preserve important AMERICAN history -- this is a national landmark, not just New York's. Your concept is great, but from what you've laid out of the current plan, it seems VERY possible to save and restore all THREE of the major gates (Gate 2,4 and 6) to their original pre-1973 renovation status to serve as perimeter entrances to all the ball fields at the site of old Yankee Stadium. They could even save the Gate 6 bat as well. Keep up the pressure. This campaign could gain money for the entire project since it would probably qualify for historic preservation funding.

From Marie Reyes:
Yankee Stadium is one of the great monuments to baseball. Save the gate!

From Rob:
One day when every team has their own modern, sky-box filled ballparks, Yankee stadium will be no different than any of them. Yet there was only one place on earth where Ruth, Gehrig, Joe D and the Mick played and for some reason the Yankees thought nothing of it to destroy that legacy. But at least keeping that gate will remind future generations where the Cathedral of Sports once proudly stood. I truly love your idea and would offer support.

From graham slockbower:
It would be awesome if they kept the gate. Go Yankees

From Laurie:
Go for it! I've never been there and don't fancy myself a huge fan of baseball, but we should always try to keep little bits of history!

From Daniel:
As a Boston Red Sox fan, I loved the old stadium and was pretty disappointed when they moved across the street. Yankees stadium is a national landmark! Save Gate 2. This is an awesome idea. True baseball fans everywhere want to save something from the old days.

From Tom Ryan:
Gate 2, if not the entire stadium, should be considered a landmark because of all the history. This is a great idea. Kids can go to the park and play baseball and its like they are walking into their own Yankee Stadium....Saving "the bat" would be a great idea too.

From Aileen Doherty:
I have to concur - what a great idea. While I am still upset about the shenanigans on how the new stadium came into being, this will at least preserve some of the magic of the old place. Please let us know who we need to call. We need to have this happen

From Samuel Soto:
They should leave a piece of Yankees history up..

From michael travin:
great idea

From ThePhantom:
Not only should Gate 2 be kept intact but there are so many other features that can be preserved as well without having an impact on Heritage Park...the ticket booths, the flag poles are just a few items. There is virtually nothing meaningful left of Hilltop Park, The Polo Grounds, Ebbets Field and now Shea Stadium to remind NY baseball fans that ball parks once existed on the grounds. Don't let the same thing happen to The Cathedral.

From Tony S.:
Where are all the high profile, tradition loving yankee fans such as Rudy Giuliani, Billy Crystal, Richard Gere, Paul Simon etc when you need them?

From hippy karl:
Hey Hippy Karl here - as someone who has been in and out of that stadium, and it's female employees for years, i am all for the renovation of the gate! YEAH MAN - peace, unity, love and fritos.

From J. Feliz:
Season tix holder since 99. It would be a shame if they didnt at least consider the idea. Its not a crazy concept. You should get on My Space, Facebook, Twitter etc to get the message out. Is there a petition going around? Where do we sign?

From Josh:
Where do I sign? Lets make this happen!!

From John L:
A great idea and a wonderful tribute. I'm all for it.

From R. Febus:
Gentlemen: I truly wish you good luck in your endeavor to save a part of Yankee Stadium now that the corrupt politicians and the greed of the Yankees, which seems to know no bounds has won out over saving a part of history. This is an instant replay of what happenned to the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field and now what do people say? "Oh how could they have torn those parks down?""Mayor Wagner and Robert Moses have no sense of history." Gentlemen, the abomination sitting across the street from the real and ONLY "house that RUTH built," has no right to even exist much less be called "Yankee Stadium." To me its 1957 all over again. I once thought ( foolishly as it turns out) that we had learned as a society from the mistakes of our past, but NO. We are a society of PROGRESS and there is no time nor room nor space for sentimentalism nor history. And where has progress taken us? ......for a ride(just like the commercial says) and the time to put the "NO" in innovation is far gone. This is a noble act which you are undertaking and I myself have tried to contact the Bronx Borough Presidents Office as well as the Mayor's Office to no avail as they are either quite hostile to any suggestion or at the very least indifferent. We reap what we sow and when Yankee stadium is gone so will the Yankees be in my heart. I will never visit that cheap imitation across the street at Steinbrenner Stadium. So much talk of "yankee history, the lore, the ghosts." In the end it was the almighty dollar that won out. I wish the Yankees had indeed left New York for in that manner the American League would have had to put another team just to base it in New York ala Robert Shea and the Continental League and the Mets. In this manner Yankee stadium would have been saved from the wrecking ball by the promise of a new tenant. Tell me how was it possible for the Yankees to hoodwink the city and state into spending so much? If they threatened to leave, I would have paid for their exodus via the Goerge Washington Bridge. Where were they going to go?The Jersey Bombers? The Louisiana bombers? or a team called Yankees in the SOUTH? Again excuse me for ranting and I wish you luck but the public that cared waited too long to do something. Maybe a miracle will occur and your (and my) wish will be granted butToto died and I havn't seen my red shoes in a long time. Gentlemen, I wish you luck, I really do. Sincerely R.Febus PS: whatever I can do to help,I will, but its gonna be hard.

From Bridgette Furman:
I think it's a fantastic idea to preserve gate 2. What little leaguer wouldn't want to run through those gates!

From Dominick:
email me if there is anything I can do to help!

From Brian:
This is a no brainer for the city, the fans and the Yankees. Let's hope the city doesn't mess this one up.

From Jeff Ross:
Great idea. This is the right thing to do.

From Michael Berger:
Please save the gate

From MICHAEL BERGER:

From George Mole':
This is a great idea! Save Gate 2! I would also like to see them preserve the original diamond, so that future visitors can walk on the actual ground where so much history happened.

From michael fierman:

From frank curte:
save gate 2 this would be great

From Jim:
NYC Parks Dept, Please save Gate 2 !!!! This is American and NYC history here please don't do what the Steinbrenners did to US.

From Mike G:
I hate the Yanks. But I absolutely loved Yankee Stadium. This will not make what happened "right" but it is a step in the right direction. Love the idea it really is a no-brainer.

From Lisa:

From Bart Steinberg:
It's important to save some part of the house that Ruth built, save Gate 2

From Michael Smith:
As a Native New Yorker and lifelong Yankees Fan now living in California, I pray that this plan succeeds. I was lucky enough to attend a game at the old Stadium last year. She will be missed. Let's hope a part of her always remains as a gateway to baseball fields of future stars.

From Ethan Gorsuch:

From Joe Palau:
THIS PLAN MUST GO FORWARD. NEW YORK HAS DESTROYED ITS BASEBALL HERITAGE BY DESTROYING THE POLOGROUNDS AND EBBETS FIELD. PESERVING THE GATE WILL INSURE ONE PIECE OS NY BASEBALL HISTORY WILL SURVIVE. KEEP THE GATE!

From John Rome:
Lets do all we can to save this piece of New York history as well as a piece of americana

From Walter Lehmann:
Great idea. It will be a shame if this plan doen not get done. My first game was in the early 50s with my dad.

From Brendan Tobin:
Great idea

From Roy Campolongo:
People compare Yankee StadiUm to the Roman Coliseum, but there's one big difference; the Roman Coliseum is still there. Saving Gate 2, with part of the Frieze on either side, is an idea who's time has come. It's aesthetically pleasing, and historically significant. Everyone attending the new park, as well as the new Yankee Stadium, will want to walk by it, photograph it, touch it and feel the history. Wake up New York. Say yes to historical preservation - SAVE GATE 2.

From Richard Svrchek:
I think this is a fantastic idea. I read about it in the Daily News today. I feel they should have kept the old Stadium the entire time anyway, but that is another story.

From Shelly Flesher:
I'm sad that this awesome plan hasn't generated more engergy. I love the new stadium, think it was time to move forward but we will never replace Yankee Stadium and all that happened there. Passing from generation to generation. What a loss to not save a significant portion. Life is bittersweet but hope springs eternal.

From stan garelik:

From paul jahnige:
save the gate - it's a piece of history. It should remain for the new park.

From Jason:
Gate 2 Forever

From Kevin Gannon:
Keep Gate 2 standing tall and proud! By doing so future generations will be able to pass thru an original part of the House That Ruth Built and feel the pride of the old Stadium wash over them when they pass thru historic Gate 2.

From Brian Pechkis:
Great plan guys! I hope it works out.

From Thomas DeAngelo:
This is a brilliant idea, and a no-brainer. It's perfect in its simplicity. Please save Gate 2.

From Paul W. Rauschenbach:
The most recognized sports venue in the world, The House That Ruth Built, which rivals the Roman Coliseum in Italy, should have Gate 2 preserved for future generations to admire.

From John:
Keep up the effort! I love your plan for Heritage Park and preserving gate 2. Hopefully the sense of this will be realized before it's too late. Refurbishment can happen many times, but original history only happens once.

From Dan Benscher:
Great idea. I have been depressed all year and a visual reminder of the REAL Yankee stadium would help... although it will remind me how much I dislike the new place:-( Fight the good fight!

From Josh Jacobs:
Yeah, Keep Gate 2 restored to the way the exterior looked until 1973 with the classic Yankee Stadium brass sign and the Eagles on either side of the sign. The plans look awesome and I hope this happens.

From al guippone:
i agree its, a great idea

From Robert S. Harrison:
I am going to pray that they keep gate 2 and the bat, because it keep the memory of the 1923, and 1976 version of the stadium.

From Brian Cunningham:
I've gone to Yankee Stadium since 1963 and can't imagine that 'home away from home' not being there anymore.. Please save at least PART of it! Keep up the good work!!

From Peter Johnson:
I think that this is a great idea. I have been to 4 games this year and it kills me to walk pass the "Old Yankee Stadium" And think that this could be the last time I see this GREAT Ball park stand. I am young compared to the stadium but I have nothing but great memories inside the stadium. This is a great way to preserve history. Kids of all ages can come to the "NEW Yankee Stadium" and see a part of the Orginal Yankee Stadium.

From Phil Reina:
Keep fighting! Besides the letters to Bloomberg is there anything we can do to help?

From Paul Gaines:
What a great idea. Was at the fianl game and found a picture taken in front of gate 2 from that last day. We need to keep it.

From Willet Hossfeld:
I think this is a wonderful idea, and it would be a travesty for it not to happen. Although I know longer live in New York, please make sure to get a petition going that can be presented to the legislature. This NEEDS to happen

From Gennaro Santore, Jr:
This is a great idea. I originally thought the 'one-field' idea was the best, maybe keeping portions of the main level. What a thrill for local teams to play in these 'hallowed grounds'. Since that idea is no longer viable, I think the Gate 2 proposal is great. I've been going to the Stadium for almost 50-years. It hurts to see it empty now. The new stadium is nice, but when I went to a game, I not only went to see the Yankees, I also went to see Yankee Stadium. Now, it's just a game - the history is gone. I hope this proposal gains momentum. Thanks for your effort.

From Lyndell Betzner:
Wonderful idea and proposal. Petition suggestion is good. Thank you for you efforts. How can we help?

From Theo L.:
It must be done. Keep fighting, stay strong.

From Denise:
What an awesome idea, LOVE IT! Good Luck!

From Victor :
Please keep fighting, this is a GREAT cause..

From brian:
this is awesome! keep fighting for it.

From anthony m dilauro:
wow! what a great idea! go yankees

From Michael Rocco:
It saddens me everyday when I watch Yankees game casts to know the old stadium is on the verge of extinction. A Yankee Stadium memorial should be erected to commemorate the hallowed grounds. The original Yankee Stadium is a vital part of American history. The least that can be done is this commemorate wall to keep the memories of this very special place alive.

From JP:
This is something that has to be done! Any Yankee fan would agree that you need a piece of the stadium there to remind you of your youth...the good ole' days. I am on board! Someone get Rudy on board!!!

From John Young:
This is a wonderful proposal. It presents a perfect connection between the new Stadium and the hallowed ground of the old field. It pays tribute to the traditions of the past while allowing the future use of the old Yankeed Stadium land. I certainly hope all parties involved will see the wisdom of this plan and the respect that it shows the area.

From Edward Viglione:
This proposal is so simple and logical, I can't see it not happening. It makes so much sense! I'm on board.

From Tanysha:
I'm already sad that out sacred grounds and hallow hall of old have been violated. I went to the new stadium and I couldn't even stay there for five minutes before tears started falling and I had to leave and that's despite I had a ticket to go to a home game. It still hurts too much. At least saving Gate 2 is the least they can do.

From Jim:
It would be a shame to have nothing left of the original park. I hope those with the power to make this or something similar happen will do so before it's too late.

From Leonard A. Price:
After looking over the Gate 2 idea I am in full spport of the idea, I think preserving Gate 2 is essential to the history of not only the original Yankee Stadium but to baseball as a whole. To simply have 3 fields with no clear representable symbols that the original Yankee Stadium ever existed is inexcusable. I hope the City of New York, The Steinbrenners and Major League Baseball get behind this project cause I know I sure am.

From David Letner:
I totally am in full support of this plan. I'm glad there are a lot of people that care besides me. If this wonderful request is rejected, the hell with the Yankees and the City of New York forever, and that's coming from a Yankee fan of nearly 40 years!

From Mary Beth Stabinski:
Future generations will be glad you saved this piece of history!! Best of luck from upstate New York.

From Rich Hogan :
This idea is a NO BRAINER !!!! SAVE THE GATE !!!!!!

From Rem Hunnewell:
Great Idea! What can I do to help?

From Bobby Hoppin:
This sounds like a great idea. Having a piece of history still standing would be awesome!

From Thomas Anselmi:
As a long time Yankee fan and growing up going to the old stadium, I feel this would be a great way to preserve a piece of this storied history without impacting the recreational upgrade to the area.

From Darren Currie:
This absolutely must be done. While I am not a Yankees fan, I am a fan of all things baseball, and the more historical the better. I made the trip to Yankees stadium in 2008 with my wife and very young daughter. I took pictures of everything. I tried to document everything about your wonderful old stadium, and beautiful city. I would love to be able to return with my wife and kids, and see Gate 2 again, as I did in that final, celebratory season. And then maybe visit the new "House". It must be saved.

From DENNIS MCELVAINE:
THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. THE CITY SHOULD SELL SMALL CHUNKS OF THE STADIUM WITH A COA TO PAY FOR IT. I WOULD BUY IT.

From bob imperato:
Good luck I hope you succede!

From William Locke:
Great idea! Please save the gate!

From Deanna Lopes:
It is a wonderful idea! As a Yankee fan I would like to see it preserved in some way.

From Dennis Buden:
Makes all the sense in the world. Bloomberg should jump all over this. He would be a hero. Lonn Trost and Randy Levine: Where is your conscience? Like everything else that matters to you - in your wallet. What a waste. What a shame. Let's make this happen. If The Babe were alive he'd finance it himself.

From Ellias osman:
PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ, save gate two it will draw money for the people in ny

From Chris Hayden:
What a fantastic idea, Gate 2 is where i walked into the stadium for the last 8 years of season tickets!

From Kevin Bloom:
SAVE SOME PART OF THE STADIUM.. GATE 2 IS A GREAT IDEA. I still liked the original idea of keep dugout and a few seats. something is way better then nothing!

From bruce bachtold:
wonderful idea!!!

From Jimmy Schneider:
Great idea!! I hope its accepted!

From joe coop:
you guys should get this in all the NY newspapers, keep up all your hard work, thanks from a life long yankee fan.

From Jonathan Serrano:
I have been a Yankee fan since the day I was born and have also lived in the bronx my whole life, and I think the old Yankee stadium should be kept as muesem, why pay attention to the crying bronxites about not have enough park place, when all that occurs in these parks are violence and drug use. I vote to keep the old stadium

From Jon Alba:
I own a site, www.sportsfullcircle.com. Throughout the past few weeks, I have been DRASTICALLY been pushing this movement. I even created a facebook group (Save Yankee Stadium Gate 2) in order to support it. We need to bond together and get our voices heard, we only have a small amount of time!

From Jim Glass:
OK...forget my last comment. I am in California and hadn't heard about it here, so maybe some national coverage or TV like Costas now or the other HBO new shows?

From Jim Glass:
Has this been in the newspapers? Maybe pushing the idea there can generate more support!

From Alex Cappola:
I think this an excellent idea and a great way to pay tribute to the old stadium! It would be such a shame to see it disapper completely.

From Jonathan Williams:
I am in 100% agreement with your proposal to save and preserve Gate 2. I wish there was a way to keep part of the initial plan where the original diamond and part of the backstop seating area would also have been preserved. But this plan: The Yankee Stadium Memorial At Heritage Park seems to offer the best of bot worlds: Open space for the public and preserving a part of the past of this great stadium structure. I sincerely hope that they do build it, because I will definitely come!

From Anthony C. Ricci:
Let's learn from the past e.g. Ebbets Field and the Polo Grounds. I'm 31 years old and I wish I could have seen those parks. Leaving this site vacant or worse yet a parking lot would be disrespectful and ludicrous. Let other cities make mistakes. This is New York! Baseball fans everywhere, write letters like you've never written them before. This website has addresses to everyone you need to send them to. Now it's time for us to rally for this gate to be saved.

From Mike Wagner:
Yankee Stadium does not deserve the fate it has been given. Part of it should be saved for people to visit and pay their respects to an icon that has brought pride and joy to millions of people over the years. Besides baseball and other sports, it has hosted the memorial to 9/11 victims. Yankee Stadium is a true part of America's soul!!!

From 161st and River:
GREAT idea guys. We at 161st and River are promoting hard for you guys as well and will be sending in letters later this week. Keep up the good work and mobilizing. Another good "grassroots" idea would be distributing the pamphlets from your Download section that state the idea outside Yankee Stadium on gamedays, if that's allowed, which I can't imagine why it wouldn't be since you're not selling anything.

From robert picking:
Great idea SAVE THE GATE

From Devin Short:
We need to keep whatever we can of the old Yankee Stadium. What a wonderful plan. I hope that someone is willing to make this become a reality. Let us know how we can help!

From Robert Crespi:
I agree that a significant part of the historic Stadium should be preserved. The Yankees and the City have deceived the public.

From rachel kammen:
I love this idea. We need to keep whatever we can of the old Yankee Stadium.

From Andrew Johnson:
I love the Idea. It preserves history and shows that this great park was there.

From Phil Folta:
What a great idea. Why let one of, if not the most, famous stadiums in the world completely disappear?

From John Prescott:
Wonderful idea! I wish they would retain the footprint of the field including the location of home plate so we could take a few swings at the same place Ruth and Mantle did!

From Brett Schnauffer:
With so many of the game's memorable moments taking place at that site, it makes sense to keep a piece of that history alive. Great idea, great concept. Let's hope someone in power is listening.

From Jim Kuehlke:
Save the gate!!

From Kristy Ingraham:

From anthony aalto:
Great idea.I appreciate the hard work and time that have gone into this proposal. We are too quick to tear down the past. In few other sports is history such a vital component.

From Carmine Lengua, Jr.:
There's no reason to NOT leave the gate and frieze up as shown in the "Symbolic Gateway" section. Great plans!

From Adam:
Don't show too much affection for the Gate - if Tross thinks he can sell it and make a profit, it will be gone.

From Jeffrey:
I've been a Yankees fan since the age of 7; been there for them when all my friends got off the bandwagon. I'm devastated they are tearing down a piece of history. This is a great plan.

From Larry:
Not a Yankees fan, but THIS is a GREAT IDEA!

From Bob Shier:
Save the Gate! This is genius.

From Peter Wendel:
Whoever designed the site is brilliant!

From Mike Kappmeier:
SAVE THE GATE! Let's Go Yankees!!

From mark rodriguez:
what a grand entrance to the new heritage park. as the mission says, "a bridge from the old to the new" save the gate!

From Dawn Owens:

From Lisa Silverman:
Kids need to be able to see history, not just hear about it!

From Tim Jetter:
I'm a 50 year old Red Sox fan who has hated and cursed the Yankees my whole life. But watching the brick by brick destruction of hallowed Yankee Stadium is obscene. I truely feel pain over it and hope that you are successful with your plan to save that wonderful gate. Sincerely, Tim Jetter (not Jeter as most people who don't know me call me which drives me crazy!!!)

From David Cancian:

From John Lanza:

From Zak McGraw:
This really should be done. I'm from Detroit, and I wish they could do something like this with what's left of Tiger Stadium. Good Luck!

From Todd Slater:
It's really a sin the whole original stadium isn't already registered as a National Historic Site. This idea rectifies the situation -- or at least helps a little. And this comes from a Mets fan, by the way! HMP says Save The Gate!

From Thomas Olsen:
Yes! Yes! I love this idea!

From Stephanie:
This MUST be done! I can't imagine not having a part of the old Stadium still standing. It is an historic building for goodness sake!

From Mike Gallo:
This NEEDS to happen.

From Mahlon Lund:
I totally agree; let's keep Gate 2. Keep the faith. Write anybody who may have influence.

From Tom Bowler:
This is a wonderful idea--Any way to preserve just a piece of the history is crucial to New York. Later generations will wonder why no piece exists, if we dont save some now.

From Cameron Quwek:
As a life long Yankee fan from Edmonton Alberta Canada I desperately wanted to go to a game at old Yankee Stadium, I never got that chance. To be able to even view a piece of old Yankee Stadium would be a dream come true. To not preserve even a small piece of the "House that Ruth built", would be criminal.

From Jon Cooley:
I would love for this to happen. Some day, when I take my kids to the new stadium, I would love to be able to show that the part of the old stadium...

From Brian Hagstrand:
This is a great idea! I really hope we can all help make this happen.

From jose corrales:
Good luck!! Hope you make it happen

From Brian Brantley:
Great Idea

From Craig:
Preserving Gate 2 is a no-brainer. It would sure be nice to see the right thing done here...preserving the history of the most famous sports arena ever constructed.

From Michael Manzo:
This is an awesome plan. I will sign any petition if it helps.

From Brent Stauffer:
I am a Phillies fan and saw this site on Yahoo. I think this is a good plan for the park and the city of NY should try to save this piece of Yankee stadium. I live in White Plains NY now and there is no part of the Battlefield from the Battle of White Plains preserved. I can tell you that you can't get history back once it is gone.

From George Piper:
Love the plan. To let the old stadium be remembered by ghosts and memories would not do it justice.

From Tom M:
Very clever idea, let's hope this can gain traction, it's an outrage and shame that the most significant sports venue in America may be completely destroyed-telling about the current management of the Yankees; George never would have never let this happened

From John Jameson:
Very cool idea, how can we help? Give me a petition and I'll sign it, along with everyone else on here I'm sure.

From Curt C.:
What a great idea on preserving a national landmark and all the wonderful memories.

From Tim Scarella:

From James Flanagan:
I think this is definitely a great cause. I agree with other posts that the same should have been done with other HISTORIC stadiums. None, however, is quite as historic as Yankees Stadium.

From Dave Dubya:
Awesome idea...how can everyone help?

From ted janis:
Should have done this with Ebbetts Field and the Polo Grounds too.

From Seth Okin:
This is a wonderful idea that I would hope gets a thorough review by the City. Would there additionally be a way to have that given consideration of a historical/landmark property?

From Anthony Iannantuono:
This is a great idea and a very necessary tribute. As a Yankee fan I'm still sickened by my Yanks not playing there, we CAN NOT let them wipe away the whole stadium. It's bad enough detroit is doing it (what does that city ever get right?) but not THE Stadium!! This MUST be approved!

From tom oatway:
Hey, I'm a freaking Red Sox fan and even I can see how much it would mean to save it. I googled Yankee Stadium gate 2 after I read Passan's column and it is a beautiful piece of history and well worth saving!

From Andy Polizzi:
This was posted on Yahoo a few hours ago: DETROIT (AP)—What remains of historic Tiger Stadium will be demolished after the city rejected a $33.4 million proposal by a nonprofit group to preserve and renovate the old ballpark. No evidence of Tiger Stadium will remain. Don't let it happen to Yankee Stadium! Petition now! The Yankees and companies like Steiner Sports will make millions of dollars by selling off the wreckage of the Stadium. They need to get behind this preservation initiative.

From Jason Henderson:
This must be done. I don't even like the Yankees, but for the sake of the history of the game, it needs to be done.

From Gery Piazza:
Great idea! I think it would be a wonderful tribute to the Yankees and to the old Yankee Stadium to use the Gate 2 idea. Awesome job!

From Jon Pisiewski, Esq.:
Good plan! I like it.

From Mark Yawdoszyn:
Saw your plan mentioned in a Yahoo column. Hope many others saw it as well. This Red Sox fan would like to see your plan enacted.

From Mike:
Inspired thinking! Simple, yet brilliant! Get 'er done!

From michelle popiak:
save it for the people who love it -save the past and make it part of our future-do the right thing for future generations!

From steve :
Great idea. Makes sense on many levels. Great way to preserve the past while ushering in new generations of Yankee fans.

From eddie:
Great idea!

From Eric Gyasi:
what a fantastic idea!

From Troy:
This needs to happen. I cannot say it any more plainly or any more simply -- a stunningly perfect idea that will keep us in touch with the historic aura of the world's most historically significant sports franchise. I am not a Yankees fan, but a monument such as this would be a must-see for me.

From Stu:
Big Yankee-hating Red Sox fan here. I think this idea is amazing! Why spoil the history of the area unneedlessly? I know someday Fenway will be demolished, but I would hope that they could keep something of the ol' ballpark. Good work. You guys and gals are doing a great thing.

From Christina Messina:
Well done! What a great way to preserve Yankee history.

From gerry donnelly:
This idea makes perfect sense and the Yankees should do everything they can to make it happen. I feel terrible that the old staudium will be removed, but being able to leave that hostoric looking facade as an entrance to the park is ingenious in its simplicity.

From Mike Pepperman:
AWESOME IDEA!!! I am sirculating this site to as many Yankee Fans I know and maybe even a few useless Met fans and Sox fans with half a brain and respect for the game. I suggest everyone do the same.

From Tim Ehrhardt:
Terrific! Only a fool wouldn't go along with such a great plan!

From Ryan Amell:
Great idea, get it done

From Bob Jones:
Great idea! Power in numbers!!

From Andy Smith:
This is a phenomenal idea and one that the Yankees should support wholeheartedly. I love the idea of a Yankee village. C'mon NY and support this thing!!

From Jim Murphy:
Love the plan!

From Lorenzo Marshall , Sr.:
Great iniatitive guys , and I support 100 % Would love to see a part ( Gate #2 ) of the original and renovated Yankee Stadium preserved for future generations . Hope one day my son can take his son and say this is where he saw his first game. I hope New York will do the right thing and trust they will!!!!

From Luis A.:
We must do what ever is necessary to salvage this piece of history.

From William Mahon:
I spent a lot of time at Yankee Stadium when I was younger. The concept presented here is an excellent idea and I hope it is realized.

From LarryZ:
Baseball is supposed to the sport with the richest, longest history yet so few original ballparks remain as living shrines. Wonderful concept. Thank you.

From matt m:
this is a fantastic idea. and a very well put together proposal. if the city were smart, they would hire the person(s) that constructed this website to take on the task of creating this. a great story. ~not a yankees fan, but a fan of baseball and saving baseball's history

From Matt:
This is a brilliant idea and there is no good reason for the city not to do so. I've read through a lot of the comments below, and I'm glad that so many people feel the same way about the Stadium that I do. Please continue fighting for this because it's a very important piece of history.

From Alejandro Wyss:
Great idea. I'm behind it. I hope the city is.

From Dan Tellez:
I was angry and a little depressd when the plans to get rid of Yankee stadium first surfaced. I think your idea is a stunning save, like Mickey Mantle making an impossible catch to save Don Larsen's perfect game. I hope Yankee management and NYC are smart enough to get the importance of this.

From Todd:
This is a great idea! I hope the city and the Yankees use these plans in constucting the park.

From Brian Hunziker:
A truely wonderful idea. The Yankees have always promoted their rich history. What better way to remember THE stadium. Let's hope all parties concerned come to the same conclusion. Don't give up the fight!

From CHARLES DAVIS:
I think it's a great idea, and I hope the city and the Yankees will try and work this into the sites future.

From Roch Baamonde:
I love the idea of preserving the gate. I think they could preserve it and still generate income. Imagine if they could also preserve the exact spot of home plate and you could step into the batter's box. If they put a pitching machine there with a camera, with the gate in the background, it would make a fortune. Who wouldn't want a picture at bat in the same spot where so many famous players have hit?

From Matt W:
Even though I have never been to New York City, I have been a baseball fan and a sports fan for years, and how we remember a team's LEGACY is one of the most special things about sports. A physical monument from the old stadium will forever keep us and our children, and our children's children dreaming about the history of this storied franchise. Good Luck!

From bill rockenbach:
Great idea. Something should be preserved. This is for future generations of Yankees fans, as well as, though of us still enjoying the memories past. I wish you the best of luck.

From Rick Baamonde:
From a kid who grew up 4 train stops from Yankee Stadium and ran around the empty seats during the "Horace Clark" years... I love this stadium and having it torn down is almost like watching a childhood home get demolished. This plan would let us all have a lasting reminder of the old beauty. The Yanks and The City need to do this, and not sell off every inch of our memories. Let's work together to make this happen.

From Joseph Polimeda:
Please save gate 2. Let there be proof for generations to come that there was once the mightiest of stadiums on that site.

From Larry Chaney:
Fantastic idea, the City needs to strongly concider this. I grew up in a city that bearly resembles the place I once knew.If only the city planners would have preserved the old buildings. The proposal offered here is one our city is recreating now with the old store fronts, NY needs to do this for our children.

From Kevin Grimes:
I think this is an amazing plan, and it would be a shame if the Yankees didn't utilize it. Good job, everyone who has worked hard on this, and hopefully all of your efforts will pay off.

From Anthony C. Ricci:
I thought I was done writing but I'm not. I'm from New Jersey and I can tell you that I have been a Yankee fan my entire life. My future children will never set foot on this site to see a Yankee game and they will be cheated in that respect. I want to be able to bring them to this site and show them where the Yankees used to play. If anybody here knows somebody who knows somebody, make this happen any way you can. It's our responsibility to overwhelm the city with our support for this respect. All you have to do is look at what has happened here in the last 80+ years on film. Let's do it for the people who won't ever see a game on this site or hear Bob Sheppard or Eddie Layton. The time is now.

From Anthony C. Ricci:
Watching old Yankee Stadium being picked apart piece by piece is upsetting. However, saving Gate 2 is an excellent idea. This site has seen so much since April 18, 1923. It's as important as the monuments in Washington. It was home to unquestionably the most famous team in sports. It is a beloved part of New York City that MUST be preserved in any way possible. This plan will be a fitting tribute to the ghosts that undoubtedly occupy this piece of land. Good luck and let's hope the city of New York does the right thing. Remember NYC, this was not the Polo Grounds or Ebbets Field. This was once ----YANKEE--STADIUM----!

From Greg :
Let's see what we can do here. This is a wonderful idea - hopefully, pragmatically possible. The city would have to agree, then the very one-sidedly corrupt Steiner Sports deal would have to be voided, lastly a plan would have to instituted that would satisfy all parties. Let's give it a try...

From Andrew L.:
As someone born and raised in the Bronx and who has had countless priceless memories in the old stadium - I say kudos to you for this great idea. Now how can the rest of us help? Perhaps you can add a page with the addresses of key decision-makers that the rest of us can write to in support of the plan. (Who has influence over the final decision?)

From Paul Petras:
Great idea!!!

From Adam A. Gorecki:
I have not been to the stadium since 1984 but the stadium is one of my most vivid childhood memories. Saving Gate 2 is a brilliant idea that any New Yorker should be behind. I hope to take my son to the new stadium at some point and to be able to see and touch this piece of american history would be amazing. This stadium is not just baseball history it truely is american history and to reduce it all to ruble would be an american tragedy.

From Mike Antista:
I would think they would have already had this isea! It is genius!

From Kathryn Eader:
I think your plan is wonderful! I am sooo sad to see Yankee Stadium being demolished. I think it would be a wonderful way to remember a magnificent historical landmark! Personally, I would love to touch Gate #2 one more time!

From nats:
I am from a country where baseball is not a major sports but I have been rooting for the Yankees for more than a decade now. I am against destroying heritages like this wherever part of the world it might be but for economic reasons, so they say, it has to proceed. If it cannot be stopped, I strongly support this plan to give the future generations the sense of history.

From Joseph Maciejko:
I think this is a great idea! It's perfect. That gate would be a perfect monument to old Yankee Stadium and Yankees history.

From Kevin Hill:
It was a sad day this past Sunday when I returned to the Bronx's and seen the "Grand Old Lady" being destroyed.

From John Spressler:
This is a great idea and way to preserve a piece of this historic stadium.

From Ron Strauss:
This deserves the support of all Yankee fans!

From Joe:
demolitionofyankeestadium.com is in full support of your proposal here, good job.

From Ben stephenson:
its a great idea. they need to leave at least something

From Tony Stucchio:
It's sad to see the old stadium go. So much history. It's a shame this is all about money. Steinbrenner, Bloomberg Save Gate 2! I hope your plan is realized.

From John Trush:
This is a fantastic way to preserve a piece of "The House that Ruth Built". I was at last night's game and walked around the old Stdium. They are putting up poles and a blue plywood fence on the first base side between Gate 4 and Gate 6. It looks like the demolition is about to start shortly. We need to get this idea quickly sold and implemented. Happy to help.

From John Trush:

From Gary Dedoussis:
Don't let this die. The Yankees blew it big time by not renovating the original. Best of luck!

From PETER C. RILEY:
Best of luck on your efforts! As a dedicated supporter of the Tiger Stadium effort nothing you will do will ever be more important. Tiger Stadium and Yankee Stadium deserve futures to go with there glorious pasts. Visit www.preservetigerstadium.com for details on the Detroit restoration plans!

From Randy Georgia:
This really looks like a great idea, I hope it's implcated. It would be nice when I come up in July to be able top see part of the old along with the new. Good luck.

From Sam Price:
I love this proposal. Let's hope the city can do something right. All that remains of the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field are plaques (I believe), it's a shame a piece of those stadiums isn't standing.

From ryan:
good luck!

From Stuart Reiner:
Great idea. They should reall save the whole stadium.

From GERARD GORMAN:
thank you for your work, where no idea is perfect. This is pretty good.

From Steve-o:
The ghosts will be happy. An inspired idea, which I really hope becomes a reality. Pay attention NYC!

From Scott :
That is a tremendous idea......At least we can try and save something from a place that was taken from us and has SO much memories and winning!!! Maybe they should knock down the new park and make that Heritage field! Cause there are no wins there!!

From Brendan:
Also Try To Contact The New York Post Or The New York Times Or Even ESPN About Covering This Idea Of Yours

From Brendan:
Great Idea I Will Do ANy Thing To Help Save Even The Littlest Pice Of This Place Very Clouse To My Heart. It Was Though That Gate I Enterd Yankee Stadium For The First Time And The Rest Is History. Wounderfull Idea

From Maurice:
This is an excellent idea!

From Jesse Rubinstein:
Amazing Idea. I wish there could be more saved but anything at this point would be great.

From Mark S:
Very cool idea !!! something has to be saved, mystique and aura can hang out there

From Matt Natelli:
Save Gate 2! The yanks and the City Owe it to all the real Yankee Fans for remaining loyal throughout all the years!

From Mike :
Great idea, love the new stadium but something needs to be done to preserve the house that Ruth built.

From Tracy White:
I think this plan is a tremendous opportunity for the city to preserve an important piece of history!

From Jay:
Love the idea.

From Mike Krause:
Great ideas! Thank you.

From The Babe:
SAVE THE GATE. BABE RUTH SECONDS THE IDEA OF A PETITION. SAVE THE GATE.

From Peter Kreder:
I am glad to finally know the Yankees intentions for Heritage Park...but am sad to see that as of now...have no plans to save...well really anything. Your plan is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. WOW. I WOULD SAY THAT IT IS BREATHTAKING. I feel walking up in this relic of the past would still give someone chills upon sight of it. I hope you can move sooner, rather than later in bringing this idea to fruition. This oversight would be to the detriment of millions of Yankee fans worldwide if we were to lose Gate 2. Save gate 2...tell me what I can do.

From Cameron:
Amazing idea. I couldn't think of a more appropriate way to preserve a part of one of the most historic aspects of a storied city. It excites me just looking at this! Sent here from RAB

From Richard:
I think that this is a great proposal and would add a historical aspect to the park, and allow future generations to remember the House that Ruth Built and enjoy the sense that they are playing on the same ground Babe Ruth and DiMaggio and Mantle and Berra, and Gerhig all became Yankee greats.

From Bill:
"If you build it they will come." If they saved that field in Iowa then certainly they should save some piece of the ballpark that has made all future ballparks possible. Bill (ubinfl)

From (anonymous):

From Debra Christie:
I would imagine that you already know that you should have petitioners stationed at the New Yankee Stadium, so that people could become informed and sign this worthy petition. Yet I haven't seen anyone there! Odd!?!

From Brian Cunningham:
